I'm in the process of building the ultimate set of links (that actually work) for my new website (http://www.openwheel.org) for Tracks, Sanctions, Drivers and such. If you have any that I don't yet have, please send me the link and I will post it. Here is what I have so far...

You can send them to [email protected]

Nice job.

People just don't realize how difficult it is to build and maintain a site with so many links on it. Kudos to you for tackling the project. Smile

Pat,

Good luck with the links page. I have a pretty large links page on my site but have not updated it in years. The huge task of maintaining it was a full time job that I just did not have the time for. That is why most who put these out give up. I think Alan gave up as well as a lot of links there are bad.

You are welcome to pilage through my hot links and track links pages to see what still works, I think you wite find a lot sites you would like to include

Pat, Yes I gave up on mine too because of what it takes to keep it going. Some people only have domains for a short time then drop them. Some popular domains are bought by porn sites and reused for the traffic. I had that happen at least 4-5 times. I had 2 requests yesterday about changes to the links so I took them down. I never look for links anymore, I just use Google. Good luck with it.

hawker, if you are looking for ideas on what to link to, re: drivers, tracks, ect i might suggest manufacturers or suppliers. i know at times when i am looking for parts and stuff online i think it would be nice to have the links set out in front of me!! are you looking for us to send you driver links and stuff like that yet? or will we be able to do that from the site? thanks for doing what you are. if you build it, they will come!

p.s. i actually clicked on the links you posted and realised you were already ahead of some of my questions! sent you some info.

to indy and beyond!!

What Alan mentioned about the Porn sites is so true, over the past few years its happened to me I think 8 or 9 times. I would have never known about it unless I policed the links myself which I did not do. I found out about them by getting nasty emails from race fans asking why I'm hosting links to porn sites. This does not really make you look to good. Unless you can truely devote the time to keep the links working and going to the right places, its more of a hassle than its worth. I agree having an easy place where you can find things quick is really cool but it really takes a lot of work. I haven't even checked my links in quite some time so I think rather than have a bunch of trash out there, I think I will be deleting it soon. The larger your list gets, the more it takes to keep it accurate. Like Alan menioned, Google is my best friend and works awesome, I usually find what I'm looking for quickly.

Thanks for the huge response to my request.

I never really intended on launching another website, however over the years, I had always wanted to do one with the "openwheel" url. However the openwheel.com, .net and .org were bought by resellers who never intended to use them for racing. Over the years, I have often checked to see if they were available and was surprised when I saw that the owner of openwheel.org didn't renew it a year ago. I swooped in about 12 hours after it expired and got it.

There are a few things I wanted to do with the site. One is the race calendar I have put a TON of work into. It allows you to view where EVERY sanction in the country is racing on any given day, just by clicking on the calendar. I had often wanted something like that for when I was traveling on business and wanted to find a race. Another thing is an extensive, comprehensive group of current links. I realize the work it will take to keep it current, but I still use links alot in research. One more thing is to have a lot of video content as the season gets going, I hope to have plenty of highlites on the main page once the season get going. The biggest, is the addition of a chat room. I have believed for years now that there are enough sprint car and midget fans around the world to support a racing chat room that has fans in it 24/7/365. If NAPCAR can support one, then I know that openwheel dirt fans can too, we just have to get the word out!

Once again, I want to thank everyone for their help, suggestions and support.

SO YOU'RE THE ONE WHO GOT THAT DOMAIN NAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was going to use that name to launch my fenderless claimer engine Mazda Miata series. But not any more! LOL

Looking forward to it. Hey, keep in mind Vintage series are in a big way these days and there are quite a few websites out there for them too.
