great column, as always.

look forward to the detailed report of Cowtown too. We didnt catch it friday - but we did saturday. You were right in the other thread - up until that yellow in the midget feature - that was some awesome wheel to wheel racing.

I caught the drift you left after the midgets - did you? or did you stay through to the 11pm ending?

It was a bit chilly - but it was just barely bearable throughout the night. It sure was a great way to start the year off i thought....

and also - what were you in the Crescent City for? R&R?

Another thorough "travelogue" Kevin. So does the DMI deal mean you won't be posting on OWT?

DMI has contracted to debut a new column every two weeks on their site, dramatically increasing the frequency of said column. As soon as a new one is written, the older one will be archived on Open Wheel Times.

It's still great to gallop around the country with Eckert even if it is from my basement office.

“Do you like titties?”was a question that stopped me dead in my Bourbon Street tracks. If ever a rhetorical question were uttered, she asked it.

Classic, awesome piece, like the pdf. You give John Sawyer a run for his money plus more facts than an Open Wheel version of Jeopardy.

Schatz really came from 24th with a broken Jacob's Ladder? Heard of that quite a few times now, rr arm seems to hold car almost as well?

Is this where we leave comments instead of the blog now on short notice? If so, where is our Nebraska driver/number combo for this article? I will submit Jim Goettsche #3G, Grand Island...

W,

Yeah, leave your comments here. We will have a comment section on the column/blog soon. I was thinking I did not like the PDF format after Kris Krohn could not open it, but Cubic Dollars likes it. We're still working some bugs in transition. We need a link to DMI from OWT and vice versa.

P.S: You'll have to go a while to top Victor Chuddy. And when we the Knoxville site have 1977 recapped?

Eck, it will be updated, but I'm on another big project right now. You shouldn't trust your pdf format on what Krohn can or can't do with it...LOL

...you have to do whatever gets you down the road...have fun out West...

I'm at the library in my hometown right now because I can't download a pdf properly with my 8 year old puter with Windows ME. I'll get a new one or an upgrade when I damn well feel like it.Smile

Turbo Dog is the only Abita brew I've ever had, a pretty tasty dark brown ale.

Back to Cowtown. I too stayed until the bitter (cold) end - but I thought it was worth it. That 600 mini-sprint race was one of the best of the night, I thought. Stupid announcers signed off and didn't have any information about the race. Scott Sawyer did a great job - winning the race after a race long duel for first. Andrew Felker did a great job - coming from, I'd guess about 18th to 3rd (I didn't take notes about this race). Anyway - it was a great show with a great turnout of cars. I hate that it was so cold, but the racing was HOT!!!

It dont happen too often - but i have to disagree with Cubic on the PDF.

I liked it better the old way. after reading the PDF format - I went back to the forum and man that writing looked small! - like really small.

If it has to PDF than cool. but if not - i vote for the old format.

my sentiments exactly - I have seen many of those cars at the Tulsa Shootout - but not enough to know em all by name. I knew the 7J was Wilson.

I agree Carol - that last race was the best of the night. the 29 and 7j put on a great show trading the lead off what seemed like every turn.

I thought we lucked out a bit on the cold though. it was a full 14 degrees warmer at the exact same time just on the other side of the Red River. Whereas it was chilly - the lack of a hard northerly wind made it bearable i thought. I say bearable - lol yeah it was still cold. But I was extremely thankful it was a 10mph wind out of the north - rather than say....20-25mph. 5 degrees colder or a stronger wind of the north and we would not have stayed. we were grateful even at the time - that it was not worse.

Hey Carol - have you been on the Cowtown Forum the last few days? crazy locals bitching bout too many cars! too many cars! yeah it was a high car count - but most tracks in the nation would kill to have that turnout. most tracks suffer from not enough cars. However, it was only a select few that were actually unappreciative of such a great show. Some also though there were too many micros. Oh, but how they loved their demo derby modifieds. Granted I liked em once they got out of the B's - but I thought if there was a class they could have done without - it was the limited modifieds. But I strongly hope they have the exact same show every year - with all the same classes. Its cool to see 250+ cars on a great track for 15$. as opposed to a Lanny Edwards show of 55 total cars for 20$ in a 1 groove rutted out swamp.

Cowtown is prob my favorite track - even over OKC. The track is better, the racing is better, the food is better (and for much less), and the promoters are wayyyyy better. The Rawdons I think are the best promoters in the region along with I-30. I want to mention Darin Short in there as well. I know that is not his official title, but he does more REAL promoting/marketing than the majority of promoters in the region. A lot of excellent races take place because of the work of the Rawdons and Darin Short (and everyone else associated with the track as well. And I wont stop there, Cowtown also has BY FAR the best track website in the region. I think Darin Short does much/most/or even all of that too. Great Stuff!

Did I just technically hijack this thread? lol - sorry if I did. To return it there - I say again that OWT column was a great read as usual. And I look forward to the next - as usual.

Carol14 , I read where the BIG Chris announcer was quitting at Cowtown (which is a good thing) the guy has no clue about announcing races, anyway I thought I read on their forum where they had some new guy and the Big Chris guy was going to help him get going ( not sure how he could help him).

So is the new guy not any good or was is just the Big Chris guy spewing his Elvis impersanations and everything else but the races themselves over the mic. The guy is just really clueless when it comes to announceing.

Sounds like also all were not happy with shortened races on Friday and and the marathon on Sat., they had a thread going for some 6 pages and it was getting heated and I guess they pulled it off their message board.

JD - the announcing was about as you would think. It aint all bad - I can see why the locals like him. He makes tons of references to local stuff. But - as you already know - the dude just gets to rambling. The only time I heard it - or noticed it - saturday down there - was in giving away free t shirts. It started out well enough - but then regressed into making repeatedly ignorant offers about sitting out in the cold naked if someone would buy 100 shirts. or something like that lol. and it just kinda kept goin. I told the Chauffuer - man this would be a classic "JD moment".

Just a fan in the stands - i can understand the drivers being agitated and pissed bout races gettin cut short. I just think they should understand the race ended up even bigger than anticipated. I think they all reasonably know that it wont happen again. Inaugural races that end up bigger than expected are prob hard to deal with. and I thought they ran the show well all things considered.

Was it gettin heated? I posted on it at first - and was goin to again - but it seemed to be toning down at the 4th page. folks just sayin what had already been said.
