Track is there. Think they ran some Late Model and Mod specials last year but could be wrong on that part.

I don't go there anymore. Last time I was there, my girlfriend claimed someone bumped into her and she fell on the hood of our Volvo. I hope the little scratches will buff out

It's a joke!
TMS dirt track is a fine facility, I hope they keep it. It would be cool to have a vintage race car meet there sometime if possible.

As I understand it - when Dirt bought the World of Outlaws they raised the sanction fees for a race and many tracks ceased having a World of Outlaws race then. I also understand that the TMS dirt track said they didn't want any sprint cars again. Yes, they have had specials for modifieds and late models. Sad to have a nice track sitting idle, but we do have other good tracks, better tracks in the area.

It's a great looking track that could host at least 2 huge WoO races a year. I know that sprint fans don't want to associate with the Napcar crowds but it would be a great deal of exposure to piggyback on the 2 cup weekends at TMS. Maybe someday the WoO will figure out how many people live in Texas and how great the weather is year round and get some big events down here.
More weight, more regulation, more similarity in the
cars.... that will ensure plenty of thrills for years
to come. Only the most average talent behind the
wheel will be needed with such awesome equipment on
the track!

Eddie Gossage, the GM of Texas, got into a spitting match with the WoO boys; and I seem to remember that it was over sanction fees.
But the WoO will race anywhere that is willing to pay the sanction fee!

Maybe the REAL problem would be car count. The nearest weekly 410 track is in Farmington, Missouri. Eddie probably doesn't want to pay big bucks for 25 cars.

Some interesting versions of the story and interesting opinions.
There are better dirt tracks in the area, carol? Which one? From a total track perspective... (seating capacity, quality of facility, lighting, etc.) it stands on an unparalled level in the DFW area IMO.
Eddie also was public in his comments about the new regime that took over the WoO after Ted. Apparently the newbies aren't much on the subject of history, just bad economics. WoO first race in DFW, headquartered in DFW for it's entirety, SMI (Bruton's gang) builds multiple tracks of a multi-million dollar variety at it's Nascar facilities with the primary series the WoO, TMS builds the premier track in the region for WoO shows... and the newbies didn't ever contact Eddie about a race. Not once.
I spoke to a TMS employee a week ago about this very subject. I was assured that while Eddie says a lot of things you agree with and some you don't... he is truthful. He tells the straight up truth and that's why he has a good reputation with the people that count. They know where they stand with him.
I've long thought the TMS track needed to have a USAC sprint/midget doubleheader on the 2 Nascar weekends. Nascar drivers are involved with USAC... it would be a natural.
The other series that needs to be there is the ASCS. TMS can bankroll a big purse event... make it a 2 or 3 night TMS ASCS Nationals... finale $20k to win, $2k to start the feature. Think they'd get a few cars for that? $20-25 to get in... you'd make money. 75 cars would show up, too. (lots of pit passes)
Sure, the WoO should be back at TMS. It's silly they haven't been.

I'll agree, "Some Guy", that TMS has a great facility, but the dirt isn't as well prepared as it is at the Devil's Bowl or at Cowtown. I know - Cowtown is a little 1/4 mile but they have good dirt and great shows. I'd much rather spend my bucks for a good show at either track than at TMS - especially with their prices for a WoO race.
From what I've heard Eddie Gossage doesn't want any sprints back. Sounds like someone "did him wrong" somehow. I agree that he is really missing out not having the dirt show when NASCAR is here. Ready made crowd with no where to go.
The last World of Outlaw show in the DFW area was back at the Devil's Bowl, and Lanny Edwards dropped the prices way down from what TMS was asking. Lanny dropped spectator prices to $25, I think it was - and the stands were not filled. I was amazed as I believe TMS had asked something like $45 for their last WoO show. Houston has been the only track in Texas to have a WoO show in some time.
With that said - I understand that Sam Hafertepe, Sr. has bought the Kilgore track and is hoping to bring the WoO's back. Another nice facility - if they can get the dirt worked in right. That is a pretty secure rumor, I believe.
With all of this said - there is a big midget show this weekend (Feb. 13 & 14th) at Cowtown. That should be a good show. Cool - but good. They have 47 midgets entered so far.

quote straight from an higher up employee last year when i asked...
"Dont make enought money for the time and effort put into the race...."
remember, nascar tracks are used to making millions in a day..not 100,000

SomeGuy I agree with you 100% and I appreciate the fact you spoke to a TMS employee on this subject. Texas is terribly under represented when it comes to WoO races. As a state our population is 20.8 million people and we have a (tentative) total of 2 races ,one of which is at a track still being re-done in Kilgore. At the fall napcar race at TMS they had a legends race on the quarter mile outside of the track on sat nite and the crowd was pretty good in spite of the fact that a lot of people were watching the Texas-Texas Tech game in their motorhomes. The Dirt Track is within a comfortable stumbling distance of the RV grounds and with the presale of tix the WoO could easily get at least 4-5k people for a show just from people already in the area. Maybe Eddie doesn't want to deal with WoO but if future growth of the sport is in WoO's interest they need to start opening more doors.
