I thought I would pass this along. Marin County is still one of the wealthiest areas in Northern California, so if they are waiving a membership fee, then other tracks need to take note and at least look for ways to give both the participants and fans a break during these tough times. I would hope that instead of having a short field or half full grandstands, that they would be looking for ways to make it affordable and fill the place. I for one have always felt that a full grandstand breeds excitement and gets the word out, plus you sell more hot dogs and sodas.

Series News January 2009: No membership required in 2009. Race the Nor Cal Rotax Challenge and save money.

The Northern California Rotax Challenge wishes to notify all drivers Rotax membership is NOT a requirement to participate the 2009 Jim Russell Northern California Rotax Challenge. Although there is much value in being a Rotax member and we encourage you to do so, it will not be a requirement to race in the 10 race series. As a Rotax member you receive a printed rule book, Rotax t-shirt and subscription to National Kart News.

"We thought long and hard about this decision. We value Rotax membership, but felt given the economic conditions, we would do whatever we could to reduce costs for racers in 2009." said Adrian Szwarcburg, Series Administrator. "Rotax is already the most cost effective racing program and this adds to this cost savings in 2009."

Rotax membership is required if you intend to participate in the Rotax Grand Nationals or want to participate in the Rotax National Points rankings.

"Way to Go!" Jim Naylor and Ventura Raceway

Check out the Ventura website and you'll see that Jim is making a solid effort to keep his stands full by letting kids 12 and under in for FREE with a paid adult. Plus his ticket prices look pretty good too. I hope his fans appreciate his hard work and dedication, and may his stands be packed in 2009!
