is this a joke? bring your own cooler, free camping, and free parking? all of what your askings cost money to people other than you. if you think you will find a track that will just give you those things away your crazy
I've never been to a dirt track that charged for parking, except maybe syracuse i can't remember.
I've seen tracks that allow you to bring your own beer, but only those that don't sell it themselves. Some tracks like Ohsweken don't allow alcohol on the premises period, and in Quebec, which is the polar opposite of Ontario tracks they sell beer in the pits. I've heard they even have a two beer limit for the drivers.

Offie, you are my kind of guy, and I have no doubt that if my parents had stayed in Indiana and not moved to Torrance after I was born we'd have bumped into each other for sure. One thing was lucky for me though, I was still in non wing county in Cali and AZ.
It may not be a Indiana bull ring, but Manzy's big 1/2 mile lets you know right away who has "it" and who doesn't. For instance, I saw Hockett in a hot lap session a few years ago at Manzy and I didn't know who it was in that car. I'd seen it get around that track many times, but I knew who ever it was, had "it". I was right, but I doubt if I would have been able to notice that boys talent as easily on a small track.
Kenny
We might have bumped into each other if I didn't live in Florida! We have next to no good sprint racing here anymore save for a few wing shows in Feb with the Allstars & WoO. I've never been to Manzy but did catch a fine show at the Pas while on a trip to the LA Roadster Show a few years ago. Nothin' wrong with a tacky half either.
If you're talking about after the races, that's a different matter. Heck, they sell beer from the pit concession stand afterwards or you can bring your own in. Most race teams have their coolers in their haulers or tow vehicles. Just no drinking period in the pits until after the evening's festivities. And no walking off the premises with an open container either. County law.
I was not condemning anyone who has a good time at the races along with a couple of drinks. I think what people on here ARE saying is that there seems to be some people who go not for the races but rather to get completely blotto. Same as in any bar I've ever been in.
I'm against anything that impedes on people not enjoying their time at the races. If folks don't come back because of people who are obnoxious for any reason, then that's bad for the track and our sport.
I am lucky enough to work at one of the best tracks
anywhere.

I don't blam you EA buying beer at the track sucks. There were some pissed off people at Eldora a couple years ago when they wouldnt allow coolers .plus they might have your brand.
The last time I was at Eldora (okay, it was 2003), beer was pretty cheap (they have a full bar, too), even for bar prices. That said, the guys sitting next to me were giving me their beer out of their cooler for most of the evening, anyway. One of the rare times that I was drinking beer at the races.

Ascot and San Jose (at the Fairgrounds) charged for parking. I can't recall if Calistoga did. I believe so, but the last time I was there was back during a California Speed Week event, and during the Napa County Fair. Here in Houston, Houston Raceway Park will sometimes charge for parking, but then admittance is free for spectators.

The Grove used to be BYOB. Is it still? That's about the only one left that I can think of for the last 8 years. Haven't been there since '00.
9/11 was there for us, and hence forth, you cannot bring coolers into most racetracks 'for your own safety'.....
yes sir...BYOB...no glass, no large excessive coolers.
come join us in the VIP for a race!

My point, besides just the unkoothness of it all was; IF a person is going to save ten dollars per race as the OP suggested, that means he would have to drink approx 9 beers in a 3 hour span, plus the beer in the parking lot before the races and after.
I personally don't want to be on the same road with this person.

One of the best things about visiting tracks in Indiana during Sprintweek last year was that I could take in my own cooler of beer. It was a cost savings for sure that factored in to me traveling 7-8 hours at high fuel costs last summer. If I had to pay $3 or $4 per beer, and had to pay for a camping spot, I might not have made the trip.
I want to know what other tracks besides in Indiana is it allowed to bring in coolers? Because if I'm planning a road trip this coming summer, that factor could make a difference on where I go. Coolers allowed, free parking, free camping, tailgating encouraged. Good racing as well. Suggestions please....
Some Citys and County laws are different its not alway up to the Track. If you drive accross Missouri on I44 and you have a open beer in the car you can go to Jail if you get pulled over on I44 and it happpen to be in a city limits that has an open beer law. It like a 50 doller ticket and some places take you in and you have to pay bail. Some places in Arkansas are this way to. Most places dont care if its not the driver.. Some dont care who it is driver or not..Missouri has Bible Belt issues.
Also some insurance companys have big increses if you sell beer. And some Countys have a law that has some control because of the trouble they had when some places were having the big Concerts,it gives them some say so anywhere there is a outdoor event that sales beer. Some places make you Hire the Local Police ,,and that can be costly.
I am just saying its not always up to the track. Some places wont give beer licenses to out door event that have large amounts of people.
But the cost of running a track now days, i dont blame any track owner for trying to get extra money from Beer or any other way as long as its not sticking it to the drivers and owners. If you are going to drink you got to buy it somewhwere so why not let the track owners gain from it.
Most state parks for camping dont allow open beers. And City parks dont ether. Laws are different everywhere. If they sale it at the track and cant bring it in ,,it might make it safer going home ,,no beer to drink on the way.
Win as if you are use to it.And lose as if you enjoyed
it for a change. Its hard to get to the top and alot
harder to stay there.
Some on here are members of DAMM also "Drunks against Mad Mothers" lol
I really don't give a darn about anyone drinking (responsibly)
it was the ten dollar savings by taking their own cooler into the seating area that got me thinking.

HA HA HA HA! That made me laugh really hard. 9 beers in three hours = passing out!!! I can think of a bunch of people that can do that in 45mins to an hr at Eldora on a Thursday and Friday around 1pm.
On race day I like a couple of scotch and waters and then a half rack of some cheap malt liquor to wash it all down. Then its off to the local hotspot in town whether it be a fine run down bar or some strip mall joint like Chili's. I get a bite to eat and then wash down a few cocktails of mixed variety and have a couple more beers. This is all well before heading to the track and the usual hour long tailgate session with more brews.
At this point its important to figure out the beer sneaking in procedure. Never, never, never go into a new track without supplying yourself first. There could be long lines, high prices or worse only Coors light. Pop in a couple of those "Pocket Shots" brand liquor in a bag, load available pockets with beer cans and its off to the ticket booth.
Now once in through the gate its time to scout out the 3 most important places at any racetrack in the world, 1) the Pisser 2) Alternate suitable vegetation to irrigate in the event of long lines, trees and bushes especially 3) The Beer booth, a place filled with good times. Generally tracks are smart and hire attractive women to pump the brew so its time to get your conversation on and mingle with the gals. A 32 ounce beer cup in each hand (or cans but always the large size) and its time to scout some seats out. If all good seats are taken I look for the best seats with good access to the pisser and beer booth.
By the time qualifying is going I am buzzing real nice and everything is right in my world.
Here is one from Australian Newspaper about buying drinks at a horse racing track .Thought you would like it
WELL-known Gundagai and Wagga racing identity Sam Jones was at Randwick last Saturday, but he cut his stay short.
"Mate, we had a light bank," he wrote to me in an email, "and when the barman asked me for $18.10 for two lights and a super, I asked him 'what time does Frank Sinatra come on?'
"He told me Sinatra was dead and I told him so was Randwick and after a few races, my mates and I decided to adjourn to the Coogee Surf Club where we bought two lights and a super for $7.50."
I don't think any central pa track charges for beer, parking, or camping? Whether it's a regular $13 410 show or the National Open. I can't imagine, infact, if you don't bring your own beer your screwed. My soft cooler easily holds 12 and takes no space, if that can't get you through the night, I guess just drink a couple before you go in?
