Ron Shuman was was Director for the ASCS Southwest Region last year, but word has it he won't return in 2009. I would bet that Tommie Estes has a contact number for Ronny.

The last I heard of Billy he was diagnosed with Cancer. I did however get to watch him run a Old Timers race on the 1/4 mile at Manzinita in 2007. It was pretty awesome, there was a total of 7 or 8 completely restored cars on the track from open cockpit Midgets, and Sprints to bolt on cage Sprints.

Needless to say, Billy put his fully restored open cockpit Sprinter up on the cushion and lapped every car on the track about 12 times in the 8 lap exhibition.

If you call Manzanita at 602-276-9401, the gal will probably be able to help you out. I have needed a number here and there for a driver for promotions and such and they were quite helpful. My son did the powdercoating on that old vintage Billy drove a few years ago.

My wife told me if I went to one more Sprint Car race
she would leave me.................I'm sure gonna miss
that ol' gal.

Try his e-mail -

[email protected]

Or, look his number up in the phone book - he's listed in Phoenix, Arizona

Billy is a cancer survivor and happy to share his story. He contiues to be active in the West Coast Vintage Racers Southwest Chapter and travels to numerous events each year. He married in October 2008 to a very lucky woman - me!

So if you are ever out and about on the Vitange tour, stop in our pit to say hello, catch-up on news and share the memories. We always have plenty of food and a few extra beverages to share with friends old and new!

K Shuman
