Update: 10th Annual Fred Ercse Classic Slick Kart Race for Charity, Presented by Agromin Premium Soil Products

As things continue to come together, we are excited to announce Agromin Premium Soil Products as a presenting sponsor of the Fred Ercse Classic Slick Kart Race for Charity. JJ and Lisa Ercse would like to personally thank Bill Camarillo of Agromin for his support.

Response to the event has been tremendous. Rumor has it Riverside’s Josh Wise, future Nationwide and Sprint Cup star, will return to run for a third win in this unique event. Besides Josh, there are many other local and national short track heroes expected to attend, along with competitive race fans gunning for a chance to race side by side with them.

History of the Fred Ercse Classic

The first Fred Ercse Classic started 11 years ago with an event held at GoKart World, shortly after Fred’s passing. JJ Ercse & family started promoting the event in 1999, donating all proceeds to the American Heart Association in memory of Fred Ercse and others lost to heart disease. Over these nine years, thousands of dollars have been raised through this memorable cause.

This annual race is held during the week of the prestigious Turkey Night Grand Prix so that many of the areas’ top racers, race fans and national drivers (many from the Midwest contingent) are in town to support this and the Turkey Night Grand Prix.

Donated race related items are being collected for the raffle, which will take place during the event. Anyone interested in donating race related or unique items can bring them to the event or contact JJ for arrangements.

Fred Ercse

Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother, Uncle, Racer

Father of 2-time USAC Champion JJ Ercse

Fred was a well known fabricator and race car mechanic, who worked on many types of race cars, beginning in the early 70’s club racing Porsche 914’s to working on Emerson Fittipaldi’s return to racing in 1984, participating in the Indy 500. Fred participated in several IMSA road racing adventures and sprint car races, but his proudest the moment was the 1993 USAC ¾ Midget championship with son JJ, which also reunited Fred and JJ with Mr. Fittipaldi at the champions banquet, as Emmo had won the Indy 500 that same year.

In his last years, one particular enjoyment of Fred’s was racing at GoKart World in their Wednesday night league on the slick track oval. He earned the nickname “The Intimidator,” because of his aggressive driving style and love of Dale Sr.

So, it is why the event is held at GoKart World… where we lost Fred… where we continue his legacy.
