Turn Four
There is something killer about turn four. Whenever I hear those words
it grabs me like barbwire. Every track is like a neighborhood.
Potential lives down at turn one, the houses are painted with hope and
promise. Turn two is where the journeymen drivers live; you can see
them reaching deep into their tool bags. Turn three is where the men
get separated from the boys. Not everybody can afford the mortgage. But
turn four is special. It’s not who you are, but what can you do.
Excuses are checked at the door. It’s where your change is counted to
the penny. It’s really pretty simple, first in are the finest, first
out the fastest. When big John Henry rushed the winner’s circle
Saturday night and bellowed at his son Jonathan “you scared the
@*($& out of me!” we all knew what he was yelling about. We were
all watching turn four…..
