I just sent a text to Robert Ballou asking if he had received any offers for a ride since he posted on the various websites that he is looking. He STILL has nothing at this point. Robert Ballou is a proven winner. Here are the facts (from www.openwheeltimes.com):Race Year: 2006 Date Speedway Sanction/Class Heat Name Car#/Owner Place 08/15/2006 Nebraska Raceway Park - $4000 to win SprintBandits / 410nw A Feature Robert Ballou 12 / Unknown 1 >> Race Year: 2007 Date Speedway Sanction/Class Heat Name Car#/Owner Place 04/28/2007 Eldora Speedway USAC / 410nw A Feature Robert Ballou 81 / Mulvaney 1 08/16/2007 Creek County Speedway - $4000 to win SprintBandits / 410nw A Feature Robert Ballou 81 / Mulvaney 1 08/17/2007 New Lakeside Speedway (1/2d) SprintBandits / 410nw A Feature Robert Ballou 81 / Mulvaney 1 08/18/2007 New Lakeside Speedway - $10,000 to win Ron Shuman Classic SprintBandits / 410nw A Feature Robert Ballou 81 / Mulvaney 1 08/26/2007 Kokomo Speedway Local/NonSanctioned / 410nw A Feature Robert Ballou 81 / Mulvaney 1 09/14/2007 Bloomington Speedway Local/NonSanctioned / 410nw A Feature Robert Ballou 81 / Mulvaney 1 09/22/2007 Eldora Speedway - $6000 to win Four Crown Nationals USAC / 410nw A Feature Robert Ballou 81 / Mulvaney 1 09/29/2007 Florence Speedway - $3000 to win MSCS / 410nw A Feature Robert Ballou 81 / Mulvaney 1 10/06/2007 Lawrenceburg Speedway - $10,000 to win MSCS / 410nw A Feature Robert Ballou 81 / Mulvaney 1 >> Race Year: 2008 Date Speedway Sanction/Class Heat Name Car#/Owner Place 05/04/2008 Terre Haute Action Track - $3000 to win MSCS / 410nw A Feature Robert Ballou 81 / Mulvaney 1 06/27/2008 Paducah International Raceway - $2000 to win MSCS / 410nw A Feature Robert Ballou 81 / Mulvaney 1 08/01/2008 Paducah International Raceway - $2000 to win MSCS / 410nw A Feature Robert Ballou 81 / Mulvaney 1 08/11/2008 Lucas Oil Speedway - $4000 to win SprintBandits / 410nw A Feature Robert Ballou 81 / Mulvaney 1 08/16/2008 New Lakeside Speedway (1/2d) $10,000 to win Ron Shuman Classic SprintBandits / 410nw A Feature Robert Ballou 81 / Mulvaney 1 10/04/2008 Lawrenceburg Speedway - $10,000 to win MSCS / 410nw A Feature Robert Ballou 81 / Mulvaney 1 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In the past 26 months, Ballou has won 16 non wing sprint car events, with all but two being high profile events. Take out two un-sanctioned wins at Bloomington and Kokomo, and he has 14 wins with prize money totaling $76,000, including four victories of $10,000 to win. That means when he wins, the average payout is just under $5500. So, when all the money is on the line, Robert Ballou steps up his game AND WINS more often then not. And he can't find a ride? Unbelievable. Someone needs to step up and give him something to drive. DM

I'm not sure about this and it really isn't any of my business but if Garret Hansen is not be able to make the Ovals due to his injuries from the Manzy crash, maybe the Preastly 7 car is available.

Thats great news and the Smiley team should be very competitive with Ballou and Davis. Does that mean Davis will be @ Perris?

This is great news! It wouldn't be the same without Ballou. Too bad some other passionate guys won't be making the tow this year. I understand everyone's complaints about the economy, the purse, etc. However, it's always good to hear that someone who races for the trophy and the glory is trying to do whatever he can to come race with the best. Robert is going to be in foreign equipment, which will be tough, but I guarantee he'll get it figured out by Saturday. He's going to have to strap his seat into an unfamiliar car, with an unfamiliar crew, as many have tried to do before him. The Smiley Extreme coil-over non-wing chassis is gonna act a heck of a lot different than Ballou's usual four-bar Maxim wing chassis. Who knows, maybe he'll like it better. All I know is, based upon what I've seen from this kid in the past, if the new feel is comfortable from the start, he'll be wicked fast...
Off the topic a bit...
What frustrates me, though, is that the non-wing drivers never support the wing shows up north. I can't remember the last time a regualar USAC or CRA driver sat in a wing car. It may have been Rickie Gaunt when the winged Arizona series (years ago) would visit PAS. I know Cory has tried a WoO race. There are some crossover drivers (Bud Kaeding, Brad Sweet, Jesse Hockett, etc.), but most started with wing cars. Evan Suggs left traditonal cars due to injuries. But that's about it. Sure, the cars are different, but that doesn't stop the wing guys from finding non-wing rides and supporting tradional shows. How do you thinik Damion got here? How cool is it when Forsberg, Faria, York, Statler, Urton, etc. travel across the state to beat up on our local boys...the crowd really appreciates it! I'd love to see what Daron Clayton could do in a full year on the road with the WoO!

Did I miss something? When and where was young Evan injured and what were the circumstances? I did read that he would not run again without the wing. I was very impressed with Suggs a few years back when he ran @ Perris. Good post Doug, thank you for that.

You are correct....Evan does not run non-wing shows anymore, which is what I meant by "traditional cars". He had a couple of nasty flips in non-wing competition a few years ago that hurt his vision. However, Evan did very respectable last weekend at Tulare, making his first World of Outlaws "A" Feature against a very stacked field of 45 very fast cars and drivers! I told Linda that we sure miss seeing Evan run at PAS...they are some of the nicest people you'll ever meet and Evan is a heck of an up-and-coming shoe.

I hope young Suggs is in good health now, no doubt the sport is dangerous. Good for him @ Tulare and the best of luck to him and his family.

Randy Shiosaki was the crew chief for Suggs. It wasn't just a coincidence that "Showtime" started winning races when Randy joined the Kittle Team.........I would have loved to see Ballou in a back up Little Red Sucker, or a back up Priestly car . Those have to be the 2 best Maxims out at Perris on a reg. basis

Ballou has driven a coil over car before. He drove Jack Yeley's car a few times in Indiana

Imissascot,
You are very wise to notice how Showtime has improved since Randy Shiosaki , Julie Shiosaki , Paul Dean, Steve Nichelson Have Joined the Kittlemotorsports Team.
We @ Kittlemotorsports could not have found Better more devoted & the nicest People to be included with our original Team,
Ralph ,Chad, Jimbo, Rich, Gary, Danny "SHOWTIME SHERIDAN" .
I consider the whole Team my family, as without them I would stop Racing. It is very nice to go to something you love to do & love the people you have with you.
We would not be where we are today with the tireless devotion from the entire Team & Thier Spouse's.
I would also like to Thank Our Sponsors for without them we would not be Racing.
