Brian Brown – Six for Six!

(Bill W) September 24, 2008 – Brian Brown is six for six at the 24 Raceway in Moberly, Missouri. It has been the Grain Valley, Missouri driver's personal playground over the years. After last Saturday night, he has towed there six times and come away with the win each night! The win was extra special for Brian, as it was his first as a car owner.

The race on Saturday was dubbed the 360 Fall Classic, and 30 sprint cars descended on the high-banked ½ mile oval. Brian lined up fourth in his heat race, and beat some good competition in the race to the checkers. "We had some good cars in that heat," he says. "(2007 Knoxville Raceway 360 champ Josh) Higday and (Pete) Crall were in front of us, and they are used to running on the big half-miles. We got off to a good start, and we were able to get the lead there on lap two or three by splitting them going into turn one."

The heat win transferred Brian to the inside of row two for the main event. The race was never in doubt as he roared by the row one starters and led every lap. "We were able to get the lead there on the first lap," he remembers. "At one point, we got up to over a straightaway lead in the first several laps. The track took rubber about lap seven or eight and we found it before the others did. There were a couple yellows, but we were cruising."

Brian had thought the track would lay rubber even earlier than it did. "The track started out better than I thought it would, but there were so many classes of cars that the good stuff got blown off and that's when it took rubber," he explains.

The victory was win number five in the 2008 season. "Any win is good with the kind of year that we've had," says Brian. "The good part about it is, six months from now, no one will remember how many we did or didn't have. Obviously, to win the first (as a car owner) is pretty awesome. A lot is carryover from what Tim and Gina and I had built over the last four years. But to go on our own and win one is special, and it's one we won't forget for awhile."

Brian is extremely appreciative of all the support he gets not only from the race team, but from his marketing partners. "We've had a lot of great people step in the last couple of weeks and lend a hand," he explains. "I really appreciate everyone who has stuck with us, including our sponsors. They've helped a lot, and we look forward to a lot of great years to come together. It's pretty cool to win one and keep all the money too!"

This weekend's plans are a little up in the air, but can be sorted out by checking in at www.BrianBrownRacing.com.

Brian's Q&A

Jim in Columbia, MO asks: What are your plans for next year as an owner/driver? I know there's talk of Knoxville's purse increasing and the ASCS deal with Lucas Oil is out there too.

Brian answers: That's a good question right now. Before we do anything, we'll need to take a look at all the schedules, especially the ASCS one. We need to see how much they're going to race and where. Knoxville is so enticing, especially if the purse increases. It's only three hours from home, you're racing at the Sprint Car Capital of the World, and that's where the Nationals are and you have to look at that. If we don't do the ASCS deal, we'll follow pretty much the same schedule we did this year. We'll probably start a little earlier and go to Florida with the Outlaws. We'll meet with SuperClean this weekend and see what their plans are too.
