2008 Bumper to Bumper Auto Parts Interstate Racing Association Outlaw Sprint Car Series Oshkosh Speedzone, Oshkosh, Wisconsin Saturday, September 20th, A Feature #21
Nick Alden makes his debut in a Sprint Car tonight in a team car to Scott Lenz. Alden then smacks the frontstretch wall during his hot lap session and was done for the night. The MSA is off tonight, a few teams bolt in a 410 to compete with us tonight. Nearly half of the 38 drivers into qualifications made their attempt when the area was hit with a brief light sprinkle shower. The call is made to adjust the program to run Heat Races using the passing point system.
Lane Automotive Heat Race (12 Laps) 1. Billy Balog [5]; 2. Scotty Neitzel [4]; 3. Russel Borland [2]; 4. Donny Goeden [7]; 5. Steve Meyer [9]; 6. Brian Kristan [6]; 7. Tim Melis [3]; 8. Scotty Thiel [8]; DNF-Cainen Riemann [1]; DNS-Andy Klumb.
Initial start was waved off after Officials determine Kristan jumps the start and is moved back one starting row. The restart is marred after Riemann initially smacks an infield tire barrier low through turns 1-2 and bounced back onto the track sending the field scrambling leaving Kristan to slide above the banking turns 1-2 and ending on his lid from a very slow roll over. Riemann was done, Kristan into the work area and back out with the mangled top wing. Neitzel leads the field on the restart over Balog, Borland and Goeden. Lap-7: Balog takes the lead out of turn 2 while Thiel makes his 410 debut as a lapped car.
Weld Wheels Heat Race 1. Billy Hafemann [5]; 2. Jereme Schroeder [2]; 3. Lance Fassbender [4]; 4. Jason Johnson (WI) [8]; 5. Charley Osborn [7]; 6. Billy Warren [6]; DNF-Scott Lenz [1]; DNF-Tommy Sexton Jr. [3]; DNF-Rusty Egan [9]; DNF-Jimmy Sivia [10].
Lenz into the lead over Sexton, Hafemann out of turn 2. Lap-2: Sivia ducks pit side. Lap-6: Yellow is out after Egan clips the tire barrier under turns 1-2 and was done. Warren spins on the top of turn 2. Contact between Sexton and Lenz on the backstretch on the restart leaves Sexton spinning several times into turn 3, tearing off the front wing and Lenz with a flat right rear tire. With no guaranteed work area time allowed, both are done. Hafemann inherits the lead over Schroeder, Fassbender and Johnson. Warren and Osborn swapped the 5th spot a few times during the second-half of the Heat until Warren fades in the closing laps.
VMAC Racing Heat 1. Robbie Pribnow [1]; 2. John Sernett [5]; 3. Joe Symoens [2]; 4. Scott Uttech [4]; 5. Scott Biertzer [6]; 6. Kim Mock [3]; 7. Kris Spitz [9]. DNF-Todd King [8]; DNS-Nick Alden [7].
Bad initial start was waved off. Pribnow leads the field in his 410 debut over Symoens and Uttech. Lap-3: Yellow is out after Mock dives low entering turn 3 sending Biertzer to go even lower only to spin and stall. Spitz spun into the area late with out issue. Both stalled cars tag the tail. Sernett into the 3rd spot on the backstretch on the restart. Lap-5: King pulls into the infield, done for the heat. Lap-8: Sernett ducks under Symoens into turn 3 and pulls ahead down the frontstretch for the 2nd spot.
MPD Race Products Heat Race 1. Mike Reinke [1]; 2. Todd Daun [4]; 3. Dave Uttech [2]; 4. Todd Hepfner [8]; 5. Bill Wirth [6]; 6. Ryan Irwin [7]; 7. Paul Pokorski [3]; 8. Dan VanDerVere [9]; DNF-Tim VanDerVere [5].
Reinke into an immediate lead over Uttech, Daun, T. VanDerVere and Hepfner. Lap-5: Yellow is out after Irwin clips the infield tire barrier under turns 3-4 and busts a spin to a stall. Restart was red flagged after T. VanDerVere gets a nose to the tail tank from Daun and is sent into a spin and slow roll over out of turn 2. Tim’s brother, Dan spins near the scene late. Tim is done for the heat. Wirth would take the 4th spot for a moment on the restart until the yellow is back out for another spin by D. VanDerVere around the seventh lap. Daun and Uttech swap the 2nd spot while Wirth, Hepfner and Irwin swap the 4th spot. Hepfner clears the duo and only Wirth sniping the 5th spot at the line from Irwin was the only late race pass.
First Behling Racing Equipment B Feature (12 Laps) Top-3 transfer. 1. Billy Warren [4]; 2. Charley Osborn [1]; 3. Tommy Sexton Jr. [8]; 4. Kris Spitz [5]; 5. Scott Lenz [6]; DNF-Scott Biertzer [2]; DNF-Ryan Irwin [3]; DNF-Dan VanDerVere [7]; DNF-Jimmy Sivia [10]; DNS-Rusty Egan.
Biertzer into an immediate lead over Osborn, Warren and Irwin. Warren and Osborn had a good battle for position going until the yellow is out for race leading Biertzer slows entering turn 3 finally stopping in turn 4. Biertzer makes a visit to the work area and attempted to fire the engine to no avail. VanDerVere also stopped in turn 4 and he taken off the track via hook. Osborn inherits the lead over Warren, Irwin and Sexton. Warren takes that lead around the eight lap as Irwin and Sexton swap the 3rd spot running dangerously close to one another. With the white flag in the air, Irwin and Sexton finally make enough contact out of turn 2 to send the 49 spinning out of the transfer spot as Warren takes the checkers.
Second Behling B Feature 1. Brian Kristan [3]; 2. Kim Mock [4]; 3. Bill Wirth [2]; 4. Todd King [8];5. Scott Uttech [1]; 6. Paul Pokorski [6]; 7. Tim Melis [5]; 8. Scotty Thiel [7]; DNS-Tim VanDerVere, DNS-Nick Alden.
Wirth into the early lead as Kristan busts through a three-wide down the back stretch for the 2nd spot. Lap-2: Thiel ducks pit side off the backstretch, but rejoins the field on the frontstretch. Lap-4: Kristan takes the lead down the front stretch. Mock executed a veteran slide-job and did not spin anyone or himself through turns 1-2 for the 2nd spot next time around. The field was set for the remaining laps from this point.
A Feature (30 Laps) 1. Donny Goeden [11]; 2. John Sernett [2]; 3. Scotty Neitzel [8]; 4. Robbie Pribnow [1]; 5. Todd Hepfner [5]; 6. Brian Kristan [18]; 7. Mike Reinke [10]; 8. Steve Meyer [14]; 9. Tommy Sexton Jr. [21]; 10. Billy Warren [17]; 11. Kim Mock [20]; 12. Billy Hafemann [3]; 13. Todd Daun [9]; 14. Bill Wirth [22]; 15. Jereme Schroeder [7]; 16. Jason Johnson [6]; 17. Russel Borland [13]; 18. Lance Fassbender [12]; 19. Charley Osborn [19]; 20. Dave Uttech [16]; DNF-21. Billy Balog [4]; DNF-22. Joe Symoens [15]. Alternate: Kris Spitz. Lap leaders: John Sernett 1-2, 12-17, Billy Balog 3-11, Donny Goeden 18-30.
Sernett into the lead out of turn 2 over Balog, Pribnow and Hafemann. Lap-1: Yellow is out after Meyers spins to a stall in turn 2. Sernett leads Balog, Pribnow, Hafemann, Johnson, Neitzel, Hepfner, Reinke, Goeden and Schroeder to the restart. Lap-3: Balog takes the lead using the low line through turns 1-2. Lap-4: Goeden is quickly into the Top-5. Lap-6: Traffic. Lap-7: Neitzel takes the 3rd spot on the front stretch. Lap-8: Yellow is out after Fassbender busts a 180 spin and stall in turns 1-2. Symoens was done for the night by this point. Uttech granted the Lucky Pass. Balog leads Sernett, Neitzel, Goeden, Pribnow, Hepfner (Osborn) and Kristan from the back-is now running well into the Top-10. Goeden takes the 3rd spot around lap eleven. Lap-12: Yellow is out after race leader, Balog slows out of turn 4 and stops. Pushed into the work area to address issues under the hood, but unable to make the restart. Sernett leads the field again with Goeden, Neitzel, Pribnow, Kristan, Hepfner, Reinke, Warren, Hafemann and Meyer back into the Top-10 from the back to the green flag. Lap-14: Kristan and Hepfner with a great side-by-side and swap of the 5th spot around the track. Meyer is up to the 8th spot. Lap-17: Goeden into the lead in traffic out of turn 2. Lap-22: Sexton in running just out of the Top-10. Lap-24: Sexton climbs the wheel of the slower car of Uttech down the front stretch-huge wheelie which usually ends most nights for most guys and he pulls it off to keep pace without issue. Goeden cruised through and split the traffic keeping Sernett well at-bay as the final laps saw some good racing between the bulk of the Top-10 racing not only each other but the slower traffic running very well.
