RCAR,

I wasn't trying to tell you how to run your track, just making some suggestions, nothing more!!!

I do disagree with you about the tires making it an even playing field, you are way off base on that one. As for your track, I have been there several times and you are very correct, its not a horsepower track. Its a setup track, which is exactly my point that I was trying to make! The northern sportmod will be able to get hooked up ALOT BETTER at your track.

I sure hope you don't take my comments the wrong way...

I hope this show is a HUGE success and it goes on for many years!!!!

As for the payback, again just a suggestion. I would bet that if you polled the top 2 drivers from all the tracks in your region, they would also agree! With that being said ,its your track, and I'm just making suggestions that I hear from drivers from all over the country. Nothing more than suggestions....

If I have said something out of line, then I apologize, for that was not my intent!

Im the crew chief of a southern sportmod and yes we are one of the top 1 or 2 cars at our track. We travel every chance we get to the big shows. In all honesty, we would have been coming to your show if my driver didn't have surgery yesterday, so our next race will be the TURKEY NATIONALS!!!

Well, I wish you the best with this show and am glad that there are promoters like yourself to put on these shows! Heck, I may even drive down to watch...

Im not so sure about 1st maybe 2nd. Has Robert ever lost in Johnie's car at Enid? HUM.

drivndeep. If you are going to quote me be sure you quote me correctly. I did not say I did not want "know"more than 40 or 50 cars. I said I'm only wanting 40 to 50 for the first year. The only thing worse than not getting enough cars to make a profit is when you see a track get too big of a show and things go wrong and nobody wants to go back. The number one thing for a race to be considered a successs is for everyone to have fun and enjoy the experience, even those who don't win. I want every racer to leave happy and excited looking forward to the next year's event. We are working or a resurection of this old track, it needs a lot of fix'n up and I will be working with a lot of new inexperienced help, so I don't want this race to be a screwed up mess as far as organization goes. I know everybody has seen at least one of those kind of races.

Everyone keeps talking about the NSM being a faster car, yes we all know that but will it be faster than a SSM with the tire differance. I SAY NO WAY and I am willing to loose a few entrants if need be to prove it. The show will take on a new extra special appeal by making it a north vs south challenge and by the 2nd or 3rd year it will be the biggest sm race in the country. I did that very thing with the Mods and was the first track in the country to pay big money. The super nationals is a big deal but it don't pay real well and why would anyone in their right mind want to win that race and loose a lot of money. It sound like buying fame to me. A lot of promoters did not seeem to like me doing the big purses and the promoters Assn. (RPM) made it sound stupid but little did they know how much money I was making off of it, that's why I kept raising the purse each year. Like I have said my race is not for every SM driver. We could not even run it if all the cars in a 300 mile radius showed up anyway.

And sprint 50, while you are talking to Santa Clause, go ahead and ask for that 4 grand to win and $400 to start show to be a 1 night show and happen every Sat night.

I am the first to say keep the rules all the same so every one can race everywhere. I also say that a NSM car would cost no more than a SSM car to built and race, maybe cheaper if you think properly about the ammortization of the cost over a 3 year period. Lanny is a smart promoter, he has not lasted all these years cause he did not understand racing and how each rule effects the cost. I think it is true that he could care less if his local cars could run anywhere else, after all, how would that make him any money?

Sorry about the big letters big I can't see the small stuff, it hurts my eyes.

i dont get involved with these type threads but i have to put my two cents in. when they go to 9 inch fords in ths SSM they are making a big mistake. it will allow you to start running high gear and that will let the trick trannys become a factor. if the SSM progresses the same way the mods did the class will be short lived. i just hope that the promoters and sanctioning bodys are smart enough to have learned from what has happened with the mods.

We have beaten robert in Enid this year, I dont know who owns the cars he is driving? I have seen him in 4 different cars this year. So, you would have to let me know who owns which cars.

Hello Ronny,

How ya been? Where are all the other Gould's at these days?

I saw where you were promoting races in Ardmore and I know you know your stuff about the modifieds and SM.

I'm with you on the promoters should have learned and paid attention from the Mod evolution deal.

The SMs are exactly what the original modifieds were intended to be by Mr. Keith Knaack who started them in 1979 under the IMCA banner.

NOT MEANT TO BE A TOP CLASS but a class for the working man to have fun with. The problem of evolution has always been a problem because too many promoters listen to the top drivers. Racers always want to go faster and spend more money. When they write the rules they always bankrupt their own racing program. Being able to gear and run in high gear doesn't cost more money. It will save money. It may make the car slightly faster not wasting the power to turn the gearbox. But it will make things last a lot longer. NO transmission was designed to run that hard in a lower gear. It really was not designed to hold up to what it takes in a race car anyway but it will last a lot longer in high gear at 1:1 than in a lower gear to make the overall ratio low enough to race. JUST DON'T ALLOW THOSE GOOD RACING TRANSMISSIONS -easy deal to stop it right there.

To stop the evolution, all you have to do is stick with the rules 100% or just sanction your track with IMCA. I saw where you are opening up the rules for your next modified show. You may get a few more cars in the short run but down the road it will hurt your car count. You will be contributing to the evolution problem by opening up the rules for a special show. bUT IF THAT IS WHAT IT TAKES TO MAKE IT WORK FOR YOU,

I CANUNDERSTAND IT. Some modified racers are spending crazy money, $15,000 and up on engines and $300 and up just for shocks to get the hook-up with the front left wheelie. The modifieds are really over the hill for the average racer already. You can even run a Sprint or late model for the same investment. The sport mods have a great future if the evolution is stopped but moving to the NSM rules is good for the sport not bad but it has to stop right there. SMs will be the top class at a lot of tracks in a couple of years and the promoters that see that ahead of time and work that direction will be ahead of the game after those couple of seasons.

opening up my mod rules for my big race is basically what you are doing with your sportmod race. trying to get as many cars as you can so you can pay a big purse. if you buy into the theory of the 9 inch and high gear is cheaper then you might as well let the SSM run a mini clutch or torque tube . there cheaper than a 10inch convertor or 10000 rpm clutch setup. let them run forged pistons and aftermarket cranks and rods they last longer. when rules start splitting a class it is never a good thing. the rules IMCA has for the SSM are very good as they are.

Not the same thing at all. When one track opens up one thing and then another opens up another thing then the next promoter has to let anything and everything run. That's why the Enid street stock race has lost car count every year and really is not even a viable event any longer, or at least by the way I work the numbers, but If they are happy with it then fine it's their business. But I don't think we will see it last much longer, evolution has killed it.

I say the NSM rules are the way to go and IMCA knows it. They only wrote the SSM rules for us down here because the Sims cars got a head start on them and they had to compete with them for the cars that were already in existance. Now days that is not a consideration any longer. The NSM rules are already written, I'm not opening up any rules.

There is a point to where. The cheaper that you try to make the rules and the more rules that you have actually hurts the poor boy because he won't be able to spend the bucks to buy a "Good engine builder's" motor and they can do stuff in the gray area because they are smarter than most of the tech inspectors.

NSM rules, with a crate motor is as good as it gets for limited racing. Cost vs reliability and long term costs, you can not cut the costs any further without costing the racers more money by trying to save them money. I have heard of some cheating going on with the crate but if a certain racer wins too much just check it. You won't have to check the winner every race. My rule would barr for life anyone caught cheating inside of a crate motor. And I would own a new one and make the guy I was checking trade me for a waak while we tore his down.

Well lets start here dirttrack234,

we haven't finished lower than 3rd in any A feature(not counting DNF'S) and we ran second at Enids Big Show, right on Robert Elliotts bumper.Plus we have traveled to a few other Big Shows and ran really well

I know there are alot of good cars, at Enid, in this class, i'm not being cocky at all. This is just my opinion and I feel like the #05 is one of the top 2 cars at Enid!!!!

My name is Jayson, I'm letting you know this for a reason, so you know who to pay that $50.00 to....(street stock bet)lol lol lol

Honestly, I'm not being cocky here, just letting my opinion out!

I was just trying to make a point about the difference between southern sport mods and northern sport mods. Nothing more!!!

If I have disrespected any of the drivers from Enid, I apolgize, for that was not my intentions at all.

I believe you are a speedway official, can you find out why johnny and robert didn't go to the southern sport mod nationals? I really thought they would be there!

I dont know why they were not there but will ask Johnie today. Are you Jimmy's brother? If so tell him I said hi. What I am saing Robert, Greg,Randy & Ross all could be in the top 2 to me and a lot of people. As for the bet there was another guy on here wanting to make a bet with you. You might be $100.00 richer, That is a total car count that we bet on so lets have some fun and see what happens. Also could you see if Arron has his $50.00 on the last bet he made me, Please. And yes I am a offcial for free because I love racing and one day hope to race again. Is it Ellis your last name?

Yep, that is me.

I will let Jimmy know that you said "hello" !!

As for Aaron, I dont speak to him much, and was told that he had moved away but I'm not sure.....

I agree with you on the quality of drivers in this class and was just stating my opinion!!!

As for the bet, yes, total car count.... that doesn't mean if you have 70 cars on friday and the same 70 cars on saturday and the same 70 cars on sunday that you have 210 cars! That will only be 70 cars!!! For you to win, there have to be more than 100 different cars racing in the street stock nationals. I don't know who will be right on this bet but I do know that there has been only 1 time that the street stock nationals had more than a 100 cars racing!!! So its a BET!!!!!

Again, I will let Jimmy know that you said HI!!!!!
