Okay guys and gals, the kind folks at Lake Country Speedway have invited us to go racing on their super nice 3/8 mile oval track outdoors. They and their racefans are all looking forward to watching some high speed motorcycle and Quad racing and have invited bikers from five states surrounding, Oklahoma tp come and enjoy a weekend of fun and excitement.

The Ardmore Red River area has a long heritage of supporting motorsports events, especially Motorcycle and ATV Racing, Monster Trucks and Tractor Pulls. So far the details I have show the races are the showcase entertainment for the Bike Fest that starts on Friday night at the Speedway with a Poker Run. live band, and a party following the festivities. Saturday the bikers have field games, another poker run and the races to attend. Following the races, to close out the festivities, a wet T-Shirt Contest for the adults is scheduled.

Ardmore is 1/2 way between Dallas and Oklahoma City on Hwy I-35.

Get your set up ready if you are ready to rumble on the fast banked 3/8 mile surface.

This will be a one day race event, Saturday only, but you are invited to attened the party on Friday night and camp out. Primitive camping is provided, bathrooms will be open, some security lights will be on, there is limited power but generators are welcome to be operated in certain areas.

Are Karts running?

Bring the Karts, we will run them on the front stretch around tires if they cannot handle the long track. We have the track from 3pm on.

Because we are running the amateur program early there is no big rush other than to be done around 6:30 for hot laps for the Pro Classes.

Fun and Games and Motorcycle Racing all happen Friday and Saturday September 19 and 20 in the scenic area of Ardmore, Oklahoma.

Live Band will perform around 8pm on Friday night September 19, 2008 during the opening night of Bike Fest Oklahoma 2008 at Lake Country Speedway in Ardmore, Oklahoma. Motorcycle races atop the big 3/8 mile outdoor clay oval at Lake Country Speedway kickstart Saturday night.

Ardmore is located a few miles north of the Oklahoma Texas border on Interstate 35. Take exit 29 if coming from the Texas direction and exit 24 if coming from the Oklahoma direction. Track is on Hwy 77 east of Hwy I-35.

Longhorn Scooters and No Coast Choppers are handling the Bike Rally fun and games at the event.

You never know what these crazy folks have in store. Would expect to see a fun ride around God's Country including the beautiful shores of Lake Murray, Tuckers Tower, Arbuckle Mountains, Turner Falls to name a few senic spots. Then some old fashioned field games at the grounds may see the No Coast Chopper twist on the ballon bust, weinie bite, slow race.

Tickets for spectators are available at the gate for the entire weekend.

Ardmore
With so much to see and do in and around Ardmore, you'll discover why "more" is part of their name. Whether your tastes run toward a trek in the great outdoors, a casual stroll through antique stores, a thrilling afternoon in a casino, relaxing under a sparkling waterfall or playing a round of golf, Ardmore is the perfect hub for your next southern Oklahoma getaway.

Just got off the phone with Andrea at No Coast Choppers. They are located right next door to the Flying J Truck and Auto stop on the north end of Ardmore off of I-35. If you need fuel or supplies please stop at Flying J and stop in next door to No Coast Choppers and check out their brand new store.

Andrea is planning some fun field games. If you bring you pit bikes you can enter some of the games that will going on Saturday morning afternoonish. Believe she is working on a SLOW RACE, Cone/Tennis Ball game where the passenger collects the tennis balls and then has to replace them rider cannot put foot on ground, and some other fun games. If you have never competed in field games here is your chance to have some added fun.

Sounds like a lot of fun is going to happen at the Lake Country Speedway in Ardmore. Pack up your pit bikes, bicycyles, golf karts, and anything else with wheels and come on.

Let's go racing outdoors !

Gas too high, try riding the TRAIN. Yes there is an AMTRAK train, The Heartland Flyer, that stops in Ardmore, Oklahoma, travels into Ft Worth, Texas and up to OKC with 7 stops along the route. Sounds fun !

* Pit Area will be open Friday Night for those arriving early. Pit Pass is $20 per person. Overnight camping is allowed in the pit area with a pit pass.

* There is no Test and Tune scheduled for Friday night thus far. The hurricane has the area very wet and we will be looking at the track conditions heading into next weekend. Should the weather permit I will look at that option, but as of now there is no Test n Tune scheduled for Friday. If we decide to hold one it will be an addditional $10 per bike for the Test n Tune on Friday and will end prior to the Band going on stage.

* If you choose to go over to the Bike Rally, there is discounted additional fee of $10 with a Pit Pass wrist band that is good for both days. Without a pit pass the charge for the two day Bike Rally wrist band is $25 per person for the two day pass and $15 for the one day pass.

* The Bike Rally portion of the event is handled by the Speedway folks. It is on the Spectator side of the facility. With the Bike Rally Wrist band you get to attend the party, watch the live band and are served a BBQ Brisket Dinner on Friday night, and attend the party on Saturday night. Without the Bike Rally Wrist Band you have access to the pit area only. Without a Pit Pass you have access to the Bike Rally & Grandstands only. Pits will be open to all in attendance to meet the racers following the night's final checkered flag.

OTHERS JUMPING ON THE HOG-WAGON

City going hog wild over Harley rally

Motorcycle owners may spend $30K here

Daily Ardmoreite

What’s that roar heading down the Interstate, it is the sound of the throttle twisting the economic pulse of Carter County. Upward of 1,500 Harley-Davidson motorcycles and their well-off owners are rolling into the center of the city for three days leading into next weekend. How enthusiastic are downtown merchants about the Scooterfest Rally?

As soon as a reporter mentioned the event, the City Managers office receptionist launched into a recitation of the rally's virtues before a question was even asked. "Have you heard of our Black Gold Festival that is running next weekend? Please invite the motorcycle riders to attend the events downtown. They can also visit the Train Depot area, and get a taste of Ardmore during Thursday night’s A Taste of Ardmore where restaurants showcase their culinary delights. But let me give you some names to contact regarding points of interest for these visiting tourists."

"It's a sound, concentrated effort of all Ardmore merchants who are really bonding together to make these people come back on a yearly basis," said Andrea Edwards, manager of Long Horn Scooters. The Scooter shop is located on Prairie Road next door to the Flying J Truck Stop off I-35. Edwards will coordinate the Bike games and Poker Run for the Rally which is slated to run from Sept 19 through Sept 21st at Lake Country Speedway at exit 24 off I-35 on Hwy 77, south of Ardmore. Long Horn Scooters moved from their long time previous location to a brand new facility this summer. We are a full service multi-brand motorcycle dealer." We handle some Harley Davidsons and Harley parts, but we also sell and service other brands of motorcycles. We have a full line of accessories and apparel for bikers and motorcycle riders of all types." " I used to hold rally Bike Games at my home, but the size of the group grew beyond what I could accommodate there, so we have moved the games to the Lake Country Speedway for this event.

For her part, Edwards will have Longhorn Scooters, 3312 Prairie Valley Rd., open Friday and Saturday. "Smaller merchants, we have to do our share to get the ball rolling," Edwards said. Long Horn Scooters has a full line of Leather & More, in there alternative clothing and leather boutique, just in time for a Fall wardrobe makeover.

The Outlaws Expert Motorcycle Flat Track racing tops the list of "fun and games" the Biker Rally attendees will be in store for. The Bikers will be participants in Field Games involving their steeds, however on Saturday night at 7pm the big twins will thunder the speedway at speeds around 100mph as the steel-shoed warriors slide their big bore motorcycles into the turns on the high banked clay oval track. This is a Regional, riders from five states are scheduled to participate in the racing that includes sportsman amateur classes beginning at 4pm.

Dating back to pre-World War II, Flat Track motorcycle racing is the uniquely American form of motorcycle racing. Riders pitch their machines sideways into the turns, inches apart from each other, at speeds of over 100 mph. Drafting on the long straight keeps the field close and provides the closest finishes in motorcycle racing. The Lake Country Speedway’s e 3/8 Mile Track is renowned for fast racing, intense drafting wars, and multiple lead changes on every lap. Often a photo finish camera is needed to reveal the winner at the end of the furious 15-lap finale. AMA GNC National #3 Smokin’ Joe Kopp won the last Motorcycle Flat Track race held at Lake Country Speedway. Online: www.lakecountryspeedwayok.com

It is a family affair for motorcycle expert racers that make up the Scherb clan. Scott Scherb, from Decauter, Texas will bring his stable of racing bikes along with his team called the Scherbites. Sons Corby, Logan, Lucas, and Merle, make up this formidable racing team. Dad Scott holds the Number One title with the AMA in the Harley Davidson Sportster Performance classification. All five-race motorcycles, and do it with style. Starting out at the tender age of 4-yr-old, the boys have a natural knack for speed. Most are in their late teens now, and have matured into what is a powerhouse of thundering speed around the speedways of the AMA GNC circuit and the VDTRA. What do these guys do when not racing motorcycles, one works in the race shop for World famous motorcycle dirt track builder Kenny Tolbert, crew chief for seven-time AMA GNC Flat Track Champion Chris Carr. The others, they build fences. Online:http://www.scherbracing.com/

Aubry Harris, who owns Two Frogs Grill said he enjoys the bikers and welcomes all to come enjoy his flavorful menu of delightful entrées fresh off the coals. Nearby is the Comfort Inn, which plays host to many tourists groups visiting Ardmore. Both are located at the Broadway exit off of I-35. To the locals the close proximity of the restaurants and motels in that area may not have much meaning, but to the traveler having quality dining within walking distance is a luxury to most.

"This is very much a group right in my demographic," Harris said. "In my 15 years in Ardmore, this is another event I've seen so many diverse businesses get behind. This is exactly what we need to be doing for Ardmore." Aubry has promoted concerts in Ardmore, a few of his top names are Lynyrd Skynyrd, Willie Nelson and the latest artist Bret Michaels who performed last weekend.

Edwards and Harris are among 20 merchants willing to spend time helping to promote these types of events that drive the economic pulse in Ardmore. Posters are displayed at their businesses assembled especially for the Scooterfest 2008 event. At the suggestion of some of the group's southern Oklahoma members, the rally will be in Ardmore for the first time after hosting rallies and races in other parts of Oklahoma for the past seven years. The Biker rally will fill downtown and the Lake Country Speedway Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Organizers are watching what unfolds this weekend as a preview of a much larger event for 2009. "We always listen to our customers, sponsors, ticket holders and participants and plan around their needs and desires" said John Williams, marketing director for the Production Company. Williams went on to say "A collaboration of a little effort from a lot of people is the key to making these types of gatherings "Happenings" instead of just another event. A single source director meeting with and coordinating with national and local sponsors centers the focus on an organized well-run event that is good for everyone involved. The "Fun Meter" has to be pegged towards the right side of the dial at all times." "These types of gatherings, sporting events, powersport races, food and music combine to build the best memories most of us have. A pair of tickets to these types of events can heal wounds between old friends who have turned enemies over time. Who could turn down an invitation to an exciting Race or Great Concert?"

Cattle Rustlers Steak House owner Donnie Long is set for a big weekend at his buffet which serves on Friday and Saturday nights. Long said "we always welcomes big groups, and are equipped to handle up to over 200 hungry folks." "Food and fun is the theme at our place, we feature "Throwed Rolls." The restaurant is located at 128 Holiday Drive.

The Harley owners will eat and sleep here, stop for photos in the historic downtown area, take a scenic tour poker run of the area, hold Bike Games at the Racetrack. And - perhaps as a surprise to them - see the historic Sante Fe Train Depot and working passenger train, 251 E. Main Street. Spectators for the Motorcycle Rally and Races set for Friday and Saturday may even ride into town from Oklahoma City or Ft Worth or six other stops, aboard on Amtrak’s "Heartland Flyer."

While the bikers will not be riding in a parade downtown this year, as they often do around Christmas time to raise toys for the underprivileged, they will be visiting and stopping to spend money at shops, restaurants and businesses in the downtown and surrounding area of Ardmore.

What do city leaders think about having 1,500 Harley-Davidsons rumbling through downtown?

Take a guess: City Manager’s office was glad to hear the Harley owners are coming to town. City officials and downtown merchants recognize two things: "Harley owners are not your typical wild bikers and they are expected to spend $30K during their three-day stay in Ardmore", said James Lamey, executive director of the Ardmore Main Street Authority.

"It's people coming to downtown who have disposable income who are predisposed to spend it because they are on mini-vacation," Lamey said.

By coincidence, the Harley Group rally, mostly based around the Lake Country Speedway, will fill downtown the same weekend as the Black Gold Festival at the Main Street District. The Ardmore Downtown Alliance has drawn downtown merchants and museums together to create a "Oil & Gold Thunder" theme for the weekend. It combines the roar of motorcycles with the melodious "Battle of the Bands" at the Expo on Friday at 4 to 6pm. Later in the evening the party moves to the Lake Country Speedway Rally grounds.

A preview of the Motorcycle Races will be held Friday night at the Speedway with a Test and Tune session running from 5pm until 7:30pm to coincide with the rally. A BBQ Dinner, and it may very well be HOG on the smoker, will be served at the Rally at 7:30, and the popular Band "Strongwood" will perform beginning at 8pm at the Lake Country Speedway Rally grounds.

This year is Harley-Davidson’s 105th anniversary.

Especially welcoming will be the Hotel Comfort Inn Ardmore, the rally's official host hotel, even though only a fraction of the riders will fit into its 104 rooms. The hotel, at 2700 W. Broadway, may be sold out at a time of year when it's normally half-empty, General Manager Garrett Mays said.

"For well over a year, I've been working to help bring these types of events in Ardmore," Mays said. "These are people who are doctors and lawyers. These are people who have money."

Admission to the Bike Rally and Races is $25 for a two-day-pass, or $15 for one day. Access to the Pit Area for participants, their crews and their guests is $20, but does not include the Rally portion of the event.

Gates open at noon on Friday, overnight camping, a BBQ Dinner at 7:30 pm included with Rally Wrist Band, and the band 'Strongwood going on stage at 8pm. Test N Tune for motorcycles and ATV Quads is scheduled for 5pm till 7:30pm atop the clay oval racetrack. Additional information, phone the Speedway Rally Office - 405-831-3484.
