81 Speedway Up Next for NCRA Sprints
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - August 10, 2008 - Park City, Kansas - Veteran Mike Peters of Wichita, Kansas leads the O'Reilly/NCRA sprint car division presented by ICM/Ethanol to 81 Speedway in Park City, Kansas this coming Saturday night (August 16) for their third and final appearance for the 2008 race season. The race will also be part of Steve King Foundation night with festivities held throughout the night.
Peters comes into the night with a slim 25 point advantage over C.J. Johnson and a 40 point lead over Derek Drown of Amarillo, Texas. Lincoln, Nebraska veteran Mike Chadd comes into the weekend fourth in points while J.D. Johnson rounds out the top five in points. Peters, C.J., Drown and Chadd all have one feature win on the season with Drown and Chadd picking up wins at the previous two 81 Speedway events held.
Sitting sixth in points is Collinsville, Oklahoma driver Gavin Punch followed by series leading rookie contender Koby Barksdale of Norman, Oklahoma. Koby won the last series event at Dodge City Raceway Park for his first career NCRA victory. Rounding out the top ten in points are John Freeman (8th), Don Droud, Jr. (9th) and Luke Cranston. Droud has one feature victory on the season.
Drivers in eleventh through sixteenth in points have competed in all eight races held thus far this season. They include David Wheeler, rookie contender Cody Forshee, Marc Robe, A.J. Selenke, rookie Steve Richardson and Roger Sundquist.
Also through the eight events held, seven different drivers have reached victory lane in what is shaping up to be the most competitive season yet for the O'Reilly/NCRA sprint car series. One feature is still to be decided and that will come on the rescheduled Hutchinson Nationals on Sunday night, August 24th.
Numerous events are planned for Steve King Foundation Night to help raise money for the foundation. They include a silent auction, 50/50 tickets and other special events.
Gates open at 5:00 p.m. with racing set to begin at 7:00 p.m. 81 Speedway in Park City, Kansas. is located north of Wichita on I-135 to exit 16, then 0.7 miles west on 77th in Park City. For more race information, contact the 81 Speedway office (316) 755-1781.
An added incentive for sprint car drivers in 2008 comes from three year series presenting sponsor ICM/Ethanol. All drivers competing with a 360 cu. inch motor, finishing in positions 16-20, will earn $400 to start the sprint car feature finale, up from $350 from last season. All 360 drivers not making the "A" feature will earn $150, up from $100 in previous seasons. The extra money provided through the incentive package presented by ICM / Ethanol will not be paid out at each race track, but will be mailed out from the NCRA offices in Park City, Kansas once official results are posted on the O'Reilly/NCRA web site.
The National Championship Racing Association is entering it's 38th season of sanctioning dirt track races, this year in five different states in its sprint car, modified and late model divisions combined. The 2008 race season will see the series' sprint car division compete for the 19th consecutive year. And by the way, street stocks and thumpers are the support class along with a visit from Kansas Antique Races and a fireworks display after the races.
