Here is another update on Jeff over the last 24 hours...

He continues to improve and continues to follow all Doctors commands. They are keeping him comfortable and relaxed with medication and as the days go by, we will continue to know more about the extent of Jeff's head injury.
Please continue to keep Jeff, his family and friends who have been there by his side through this difficult time in your prayers.
We should soon have information on an address on where to send cards.

That is great news. Our hearts and prayers go out to Jeff and his Family.Thanks for keeping everyone posted across the country through Hoseheads that don't hit The Grove or Lincoln's site for updates on his condition.

Lets hope to see "The Jet" back home as soon as possable doing what he does best.... And that is leaving vapor trails in the evening skys of Central PA. for Posse Fans to enjoy.

Some more good news per today's Harrisburg Patriot:

Jeff Shepard's condition is slowly improving following a violent crash Thursday night at the beginning of the B-main at the Knoxville Raceway in Iowa.

According to a Zemco team member, Shepard is alert, has function of all body parts and no broken bones. He knows family and friends and tries to talk to them. He remains heavily sedated to minimize pain.

Shepard, of Upperco, Md., remains in the Critical Care Unit in Serious Condition at the Methodist Hospital in Des Moines.

He is responding to simple commands such as hand signals. Shepard does have some swelling on his brain, which is being closely monitored, the team member said.

I hope he gets better... I was a lot younger, but I was standing in the infield when Jeff flipped at Eldora and got hurt really bad... his car come to a stop right in front of me...like not more than 3 feet... i still remember it vividly...

Shepard still in critical care

Jeff Shepard's condition is slowly improving following a violent crash Thursday night at the beginning of the B-main at the Knoxville Raceway in Iowa.

The accident occurred on the frontstretch at the start of the B-main. Shepard started ninth and went for an opening under Brian Leppo. He climbed Leppo's left rear tire and started flipping on the frontstretch, which caused the top wing to come off.

While flipping, the car bounced off the guardrail and that shot the car back into the racing groove. Shepard's car was then struck by another car at the top, back portion of the rollcage. The car ended up in the first turn under two other cars.

I'm glad to hear Jeff is doing well. He is in our prayers.

There should also be a shout out to the safety crew at Knoxville for their diligence in extracting Jeff.

Not to digress, but I am extremely bothered by Knoxville's decision to deceive the fans at the races that night. To announce over the PA that Jeff was responsive and that he was going to be flown to Des Moines for observation and that his car was being taken to the barn because the haulers couldn't come into the infield absolutely discredits the announcers and the track.

Even with the line of B.S. fed to us by the track, most of the fans attending knew something was seriously wrong. Jeff deserved more respect than that too. He hurt himself entertaining us, the track should be more respectful than to try and blow-off or cover up an serious injury. To say nothing would have been more appropriate than lying.

At the time, I have serious doubts that Knoxville was trying to deceive anyone, nor do I think that they lied.

With the safety seats in use today, you spend more time extracting the hurt driver, but also more chance of live driver rather than one who isn't.

I fully believe that the announcers were given the information as was known at the time.

Many times a helicopter will take a racer to Des Moines only to have him return to the track before the night was over.

This time we were not as lucky.

I would spend even more time thanking the medical crew for their year round safety training, and the entire Medical staff at both hospitals for their extremely good professional services.

never saw this saftey crew live, but what i saw on tv really impressed me. not sure who it was, but someone flipped going into turn 1 and parts were still dropping when they were running to his aid! the pa tracks could really take lessons from them.good job guys!

K ville saftey crew is absolutly the best, hands down, Speeking from experiance not a limb of mine was touched untill the crew knew I was alright and not complaining of pain, They were Very professional, paciant, and alert as if they have been through this a time or two, checking for cauntiousness and spinal injury was first on thier list (quick scratch of my neck),next was memory and breathing , third was any pain anywhere? I will never have a problem dropping hammer in Knox because my saftey is in the hands of next best thing to GOD ! Thank you Kville saftey crew and were wishing for a quick recovery for the Jet.

As I understand he is in the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. In the past on my web site we have sent cards through the Hospital Web Site. I was told it brightened up the day for many.
