Anyone know where there would be a hotel available close to Knoxville or someone who would want to rent a room during the Knoxville Nationals. I know it's late, but a change in plans and motorhome problems have created problems for us.

Try the Newton Inn or if Newton doesn't have anything try the Best WEstern Des Moines Airport. At the time we booked, both had rooms at right around $100 - $120/night.
Des Moines is not a bad drive.
I have heard that 14 from Newton down to Knoxville had some flood damage. Anything we need to keep in mind coming down from there?

there are a BUNCH of hotels around the Des Moines airport on the southeast corner of town... right by the airport, it's about a 25 minute drive... Best Western, Radisson, Heartland, Super 8, Motel 6 (1/2 scary but normally has rooms late), Hampton Inn (had rooms week of last year, but pricey), and maybe Clarion...
Over around West Des Moines which isn't too bad a drive (add about 10-15 minutes from airport) there's a nice mall area and a lot of stuff... I know there is a Cheesecake Factory @ 101 Jordan Creek Pky, West Des Moines and I know there are some motels in that area...
We've also stayed in Ottumwa which is about 45 minutes SE of Knoxville... There's a Heartland, Fairfield Inn, and Super 8 in Ottumwa - according to the internet the Ottumwa Super 8 still has rooms... Useless trivia...The Fairfield Inn is where that guy tried to attack Barack Obama...
Hope that helps...
I wish Earl still did Eldora's track prep.

no road problems at all now, had a shoulder wash out about 50 feet long across from Slidways, but that was all, no big deal, they had it repaired last week, the signals should be down by now.

Kind of used to the deer thing from living in OH. Seems to be an over abundance of them here this year. Saw a herd of about 12 this morning plus some singles here and there on my way to work.

I have been staying in Ottumwa now for the past 6 years at Colonial Motor Inn, 1534 Albia Road 641-683-1661. It is very basic.....just a place to sleep, but clean and quiet. Last year I paid just under $200 (weekly rate) for 7 days. It is a bit under an hour from Knoxville and under 3/4 hour from Oskaloosa.

Thanks to everyone for all the help. We've hooked up with someone in Knoxville and staying at their house. See you at the races......
