For Immediate Release: Kids Night at the Races

(Chico, CA 7-29-08)...The month of August kicks off with the traditional “Kids Night” at the races. Silver Dollar Speedway will host the annual event along with the 410 sprints, Street Stocks and Wingless Sprints on Friday night, August 1. During this night, children under the age of 11 will be admitted free. The kids will also receive a coupon good for a free box of popcorn and soda. There will also be a chance to win two bicycles courtesy of Pullins Cyclery Bike Shop in downtown Chico. This year it is important to note that the annual bike races for the kids have been canceled. With the fairgrounds still saturated with firefighters, John Padjen Motorsports had to cancel the bike races because of the parking and space limitations.

Sponsoring the night is Care Free Pools. Driver Brett Miller and his team are also heavily involved with the Butte Humane Society. Bill Bell, grandfather to Brett and owner of the 1x sprint car, has made it a personal mission this year to help support the Butte Humane Society. “We have spread the word about the financial help needed at the animal shelter,” said Bell. “All of our teams sponsors are helping out and we as a team decided to donate twenty-percent of the cars winnings to the shelter.”

Front grandstand gate is scheduled to open at 6 pm. Racing is slated to start at 7:30 pm. Adult admission price is $11.00 with juniors and seniors $9.00. Children under the age of 11 are admitted free.

There were only two 410-sprint point races held in the month of July. Beginning this Friday night, a total of four Feather Falls Casino point races will take place in the month of August. As of now the championship boils down to Auburn's Andy Forsberg and Oroville's Sean Becker. Forsberg leads with an 18-point advantage. Their stats are almost identical, however, Forsberg does have two more top ten main event finishes than Becker. Each has two wins, eight top five main finishes and one semi-main win. The other big similarity, each are former track champions. Forsberg the champion in 2006. Becker won it in 2005. Adding more insight into the numbers shows that in 2005, Forsberg finished second to Becker. In 2006, you guessed it, Becker finished second to Forsberg.

Keith Bloom Jr. continues his domination of the wingless races. The Joe Hunt Magneto's Friday night series kicks into high gear with five final races at Chico to close out the year. Bloom Jr. won the previous Friday nights main event. That win gave him a total of seven main event victory's between Chico and Placerville Speedway. Orland's Taylor Simas has been the most consistent driver trying to keep pace with Bloom. Simas has two wins and is sixty-one points behind Bloom. The only other drivers to compete in all 22 races this year is the Myer's brothers. Cody and Mason Myer's are the super team of wingless division. It' s remarkable to consider that this family can field two cars all season long and be as competitive as they are. The wins have not been there but they are coming. Reyna Krueger has entered 18 of the 22 shows and she sits fifth in points. Of the 18 starts, 15 of the finishes has found her in the top ten of the main event. Chico's Jimmy Pettit continues a career year. Four wins, sixth in points and six heat wins add to a stellar season. Pettit started in the pure stocks, then moved to outlaw karts and then came back to Silver Dollar Speedway in the form of these wingless sprints.

The golden three of Silver Dollar Speedway includes Scott Rogers, Jeff Olschowka and Heather Bartlett. These three drives have transformed the Street Stock division into the most hotly contested division at the track. Rogers, from Redding, leads the three by only one-point over Olschowka and a ten point advantage over Bartlett. The three have swapped spots and main event wins the last month of racing at Chico. This division brings in the best story line for the month of August. Who can survive, who will advance and who will conquer the Street Stock championship? Four more races will decide the outcome. Be sure not to miss a single lap of action.
