FINDLAY, OH (7-20-08) by Bryan Autullo - All Star PR Director
Do you believe in Miracles? The city of Findlay, Ohio does. Dean
Miracle did the impossible and put on an event at a facility that
hasn't seen action in nine years - and it was a huge success! A
capacity crowd filled the stands and grass seating areas to overflowing
as fans were lined up for hundreds of yards waiting in line at the
ticket windows. It was evident that the re-opening of this dirt track
icon was long overdue. Dean Miracle leased the facility just a few
months back and put together a crew who did what everyone said couldn't
be done. The result was a fantastic night of racing with only a few
minor flaws such as too few restrooms, too few food vendors, and too
few parking spaces - all problems that any promoter dreams of having.
The fans seemed to be happy to be there regardless. The event started
a little later than planned as the promoter and All Star officials
wanted to allow the long line of fans waiting to get in the opportunity
to see the whole show.
The racing started out on a sour note as Chad Blonde got into the turn
one fence on lap one of Heat 1 with the help of another competitor.
Chad landed on his lid and thought he was done for the night, but was
able to put the car back together for the B-main later in the evening.
Heat races were won by Greg Wilson, Mike Dussell, Rob Chaney, and
Brandon Martin. Wilson was the hometown favorite and he vowed to put
on a show for the fans when he was interviewed after his heat race win.
Wilson would also win the 360 sprint event later in the program.
The O'Reilly All Star Dash was won by Tim Shaffer, but the big story
was the lap one crash where Blake Feese got into the fence in front of
Kenny Jacobs. Jacobs climbed the rear of Feese's car and launched into
the fence, nearly clearing it. Thankfully the fence did it's job
sending the #59 back onto the track surface, much to the relief of the
fans sitting in turn two. Kenny walked away with some hip and back
pain and was transported to the hospital as a precaution.
B-main action was wild as the caution or red flew on the first 4
attempts and a 2-wide start. The call was made to restart single file
in order to get the event in the books. There were 23 cars fighting
for the final four transfer spots, so there were guys making moves that
might have gone against their better judgment. Eventually Chris
Andrews held off Danny Smith for the win. Chad Blonde and Andy
Shammo rounded out the transfer spots.
The A-main had the feel of a Kings Royal event. The overflowing crowd
was on their feet, cheering and waving, making noise that almost
drowned out the engines as the 4-wide salute to the fans rolled past.
This was what they all came to see. The track surface held up
remarkably well considering that a few months back it was covered with
weeds and rocks.
All Star points leader Lance Dewease would lead them to the starting
line with Blake Feese to his outside. The "Miracle on Dirt" was about
to begin. When the green flag dropped, it was Feese who jumped to the
early lead. The action on the track was wild from front to back as the
cars went 3 and sometimes 4 wide for position back through the pack.
Fans remembered why they used to love coming to Millstream.
The red flew on lap 3 for Andy Shammo who got together with Brandon
Marting and Jamie Miller who both had minor damage, but both exited the
speedway. The action continued to be intense after the restart until a
lap 9 caution flew for Byron Reed who lost a drive shaft in turn 3
ending his night. At the restart it was Feese, Dewease, Shaffer,
Blaney, and Hannagan.
Blaney began to make his charge to the front on the restart as Greg
Wilson began his climb from his 18th starting spot. Blaney moved into
second place by lap 15, then stole the lead from Feese on lap 20.
Dewease hung onto 3rd as he battle Wilson lap after lap trading slide
jobs. Wilson eventually got by Dewease, as did Shaffer.
When the checkered flag flew, Blaney was the victor with Feese and
Wilson in tow. Shaffer came home fourth and Dewease rounded out the
Top 5. This will tighten up the points battle between Blaney and
Dewease even more as the All Stars prepare to head West for Thunder
Through the Plains.

|
What the hell is THAT all about?
The All Stars bring 43 cars, pack the place with fans, put on what some folks say was some of the most exciting racing anywhere all season, make the promoter more money in one night than some people see in a year and what happens? Some guy in Oklahoma tries to take a shot at Webb.
Unbelievable. Maybe Webb is the man and maybe he's not, but he's doing some good things with the All Stars and for sprint car racing.

Mark...for what it's worth I "have heard" that they where going to see how last night went before they make any plans for the future...
...in my opinion I hope they do...yes the track was lacking in lighting, parking, concessions, etc...but the quality of racing was beyond expectations...hopefully they plan more "special events" at Millstream...there was definitely some energy in the air for a hot Sunday night in Ohio...

So Guy Webb is getting the credit for this show???? I will give ALL the credit to Dean Miracle. Webb did take a chance on gving him the date, but that was it. The people that were there were to see a race at Millstream. The DRIVERS put on a great show.

There was more involvement than you think. Success doesn't just happen. The All Stars series is doing a pretty good job of putting out the right message and helping track promoteres make money. I'll bet if that or any other race regarding the All Stars was a flop, Webb would be getting the heat.
I'll bet Dean Miracle would be the first to acknowledge the help he received from the All Stars management to make the race a success. Congratulations all around.

I will say it once again, Dean Miracle deserves all the credit. The people in nw ohio have wanted to see Millstream run again and last night they got their wish. It looked like alot of drivers wanted to get a chance to race there again also. It was great to see. They had back up plans with the lights, and I am sure they had everything else covered. It was a great night to watch a race.

Absolutely fantastic. Watching the heat races reminded me of why I like sprint car racing and used to drive hours one way not to miss a show. The last few years some tracks have made me question why do I like this kind of racing. It was really nice to see some actual clay, and a nice smooth surface at that. Incredible slide jobs, great cushion, awesome stuff. Danny Smith stood his car on the tail tank while running fifth in his heat, did a complete 360 in the air with just the nerf bar touching, landed on all fours and gassed the shit out of it, only losing two spots in the process, and darn near recovering for a transfer spot. Never seen that move before in over 30 years of watching.
Very nice watching a race without blinking through clouds of eye gouging dust as well. Hope some of the folks from a track that shall not be named were watching. Whoever prepared this surface hire them to prepare that track, and get the surface from the same place this clay came from!
Schedule a couple more shows, I'll definately be there!

Thats BS all the Roe's did was ruin the track for 7 years and mow grass. Also, why would you be out there bothering them for many days at late hours if they were so busy?

More than 7,000 filled Millstream
By LARRY ALTER
sPORTS EDITOR
Initial estimates of total attendance at Millsteam Speedway's re-opening Sunday night were very low, according to track owner Greg Roe.
It was reported in Tuesday's edition of The Courier that over 3,500 persons jammed the facility for the first race since June of 1999.
"You can at least double that total," Roe said Tuesday. "Just say we set an all-time attendance mark.
"We base that total on the fact that the grandstand will seat 3,200 and people were shoulder-to-shoulder on both the north and south hillsides."
Although there are no "official" attendance records listed for the facility, it is believed the previous high was 7,100 during a Sprint Speedweek show in the 1980s.
When asked if another racing program will be held at Millstream in the near future, Roe said negotiations are still underway with local businessman Dean Miracle, who leased the track for Sunday's O'Reilly All-Star Circuit of Champions appearance.
Roe, who purchased Millstream in 2000, was extremely pleased with Sunday's attendance and the highly competitive sprint car racing.
But overall a lot of things need to be addressed he said.
"From a physical standpoint, it was a disaster.
"We had some real issues with toilets not being maintained, dust in the pit area, electricity, long lines at the ticket windows and vehicles leaving parking areas following the race.
"All those things are totally unacceptable and they will not happen again."
Roe stood by the main exit gate when the races ended and thanked people for attending. He said he came away with a real appreciation for race fans.
"I never heard a negative comment from anyone. Not one. People said they had waited a long time for this and that this is the greatest place to watch a race.
"I guess they do like this place."?
Wow Greg Roe said this to the newspaper..This proves he does not know a damn thing about running a track.. Restrooms are always nasty at tracks..dust? come on your own A DIRT TRACK BUDDY.. o0o yeah lines that is a good thing there smart one...what a horrible, horrible way to react to this re-opening..he should kissing race fans feet instead of acting like a big baby.. He never heard a negetive comment..yeah but he sure is full of them.. I can't believe this guy..TOO bad it had to end up like this..pretty funny how is the only one standing alone complaining about this..Sell IT!

Sounded like a good show for the All-stars and the Ohio area to me. Hey, with a little luck, maybe it will keep another race track from turning into a mall, etc... A few things though: Restrooms are always nasty? I only go to Lincoln, Williams Grove, and Selinsgrove, but only Lincoln has bad bathrooms (and I'm sure that won't last with the constant backlash of the fans). Selinsgrove has clean bathrooms, and Williams grove is spotless, has bathrooms that a mall would be lucky to have. You Might have to wait 30 seconds in line during an Outlaw show, thats it. Electricity? Again, it's nice to have good lighting at a track that features night racing, and drivers like to be able to see. Lines leaving? Seriously, this stuff does affect future attendance. Sure, the show was a success this time, but in order to keep fans coming back you need to address these things. Local die hard fans/owners won't keep tracks in business, you need to be able to attract families, fans from outside the area, and teams that want to compete at a worthy facility...and you need to take the steps to bring them back if you want a successful track. Sounds like the owner might actually be interested in having a future successful show, now just one successful show?

If he was interested in having future shows. He wouldn't have waited until someone came in and leaxed the track and did all the work and then started complaining.

Dean does deserve a lot of credit. But some people fail to see some of the people working behind the scenes making sure of a few things. It was a long time since sprinters were on that surface, and I appreciate every driver, fan, crew member and other personnel that helped make this a great show. I personally had the pleasure of working with Dean and Guy in regards to the advertising and marketing of this event. Everyone who had a part in this deserves "all the credit."
