Tornado Alley - Leveling Knoxville!
(Bill W) Special Edition, July 3, 2008 - Billy Alley completed another sensational drive at the Knoxville Raceway last Saturday night with his second win of the season. The victory allowed him to narrow the point gap between himself and point leader Danny Lasoski in the 410 class. This week, he'll try to take home a pair of wins on Twin Features night at Knoxville.
After registering the 8th quick time of the night and cruising through his heat race (3rd), Billy lined up inside row three in the main event. "We're really taking great advantage of our starting spots, but we need to step it up qualifying for the big shows," says the Lincoln, Nebraska native. "Eighth quick isn't going to cut it when there isn't an invert."
Billy chased Dion Hindi into lapped traffic for nineteen laps, and made his winning move in a similar fashion to what victimized him one week before while he was leading. "It was like déjà vu all over again," says the 2006 Knoxville Raceway champion of his pass for the lead. "It's a lot easier when you are running second there and can see it unfold in front of you. When you're in front, you don't know how hard you need to push it to stay in front. I know it is a cliché, but it's true."
Billy knows he was fortunate in traffic. His slider on Hindi on lap twenty, saw the two almost make contact. Hindi never lifted off the cushion coming out of turn two, but Billy came out unscathed! "Dion ran a great race; he just spun in the middle a couple of times when he was trying to get through traffic," he says. "We were able to take advantage. That slider was wild! He didn't lift and I tried to give him a little room there, but it was close!"
Billy is complimentary of all the help that SA Racing receives. "I have some awesome people behind me," he states. "I'd love to thank Craig Bolz (Bolz Farms), he was a big help this week."
