Ocean Speedway Wright One 360 Sprint Car Series

Round Six Friday night June 27, 2008

On a night where mild temperatures mixed with smoky air covered the skyline, twenty three winged sprinters were ready to battle. The track surface looked good, the stands were filling fast, and the action was heating up. This was round six of the Wright One 360 series at Ocean Speedway. Bud Kaeding entered the night leading the points battle and there were twenty two others looking to capture the win. The night kicked off with Evan Suggs stopping the clocks with a 12.070 lap to secure quick time.

Heat race number one, saw Brad Furr race his way to the victory. Following Brad to the line was Stephen Allard, in the David Key trucking mount. Evan Suggs and Kurt Nelson chased closely behind Allard. Rounding out the field were rookie contenders Matt Sargent, and Justin Sanders. Tyler Schmidt and veteran Wayne Katen rounded out the field.

Heat race number two went to veteran racer Keith Day, the crowd watched Day take the checkers in the familiar Keith Day Trucking #22. .Day was following to the line by Jason Statler, Brent Kaeding and local racer Jerry Bonnema. Behind Bonnema were Brent Bjork, Ken Fredenburg and Mike Stallings.

Heat race number three was captured by Bud Kaeding. Bud quickly took his #20 mount to the front from his fourth place starting, spot never to be challenged. Andy Ferris followed Bud to the line, along with Anthony Simone, Craig Smith, Ricky Wright Jr., Jason Newton and Vik Luker.

The main event saw last year's champion, and recent inductee to the sprint car hall of fame, Brent Kaeding pick up his first win of the year. BK stalked race long leader Brad Furr for two thirds of the race before making his move to the top spot. Along with picking up the win, Kaeding locked himself into the prestigious Johnny Key memorial race. Brad Furr, who had already locked the Big O Tires, number two in the Key race, looked poised capture his first win within the series only to come up one spot short. This was the second straight runner up finish for Furr. Finishing third was series point leader Bud Kaeding. Bud wheeled the Werbach motorsports, Los Gatos Construction Company sprinter to another top three finish, as the team maintained their stronghold on their chase to a championship. Local racer and previous winner, Evan Suggs brought the family owned sprinter home in fourth place, securing himself a starting spot in the Johnny Key memorial race as well. Rounding out the top five was "the big guy" Jason Statler. Statler methodically maneuvered the DF Rios, double zero through the traffic trying to overcome an early race altercation that sent him to the rear. Following Statler to the line was Kurt Nelson, Matt Sargent, "Cowboy" Craig Smith, Keith Day and Jason Newton. There have now been six cars pre-qualified for the Johnny Key Memorial race which is scheduled for August 29, 2008. Round Seven, which takes place Friday night, July 11th will qualify (3) more cars, come see who's next to get in. For complete results, please visit our website @ www.oceanspeedway.com

On a side note…… Joey "Batts" Battaglia, a friend of all the sprint car racers and fans took to the wheel of a four banger Friday night. With help from many of the teams and friends, "Batts" was able to finish the A Main event with a 20th place finish. Great job Joey, we hope you had a lot of fun.
