The rains have passed and the battle is set for tonight at Eldora. Hannagan leads Blaney by just 8 points for the Ohio Speedweek title. Both are creeping up on Dewease's lead in the season points standings. Things could get wild tonight at Eldora - if you are within driving distance, don't stay home tonight!!

ROSSBURG,
OH (6-28-08) by Bryan Autullo –
All Star PR Director
The O'Reilly All Star Circuit of Champions finally got a
break from Mother Nature on the Ohio Speedweek finale at Tony Stewart;s Eldora
Speedway in Rossburg, OH. For the first
time this week – there was sunshine!
There were 36 cars who made the tow to the monster ½ mile in Western Ohio, some of which had not seen a lap here in a
very long time.
Western PA star Ed Lynch
Jr. set the Kistler Engines quick time for the evening. Lynch picked up the Speedweek finale win in
2007 and returned to try to repeat that feat over a very stellar All Star
field.
Heat races were won by Greg Wilson, Lance Dewease, Kenny
Jacobs, and Butch Schroeder. Dale Blaney
took the checkers in the O'Reilly All Star Dash. With the Eldora track crew doing a phenomenal
job in prepping the track surface despite a week of constant rain passing over
the Buckeye State, the dust was down, the speeds
were up, and the racing was as exciting as I have ever seen at The Big E.
B-main action was as intense as any racing that has taken
place all week long. Brian Ellenberger
diced it out with Aussie Troy Little until Jeremy Campbell made his way to
second place in the Rick Ferkel #0. Paul
may finished 3rd as Mike Dussel edged out Little on the final lap to
transfer to the A-main.
The 30 lap A-main went wire to wire as Ed Lunch Jr. jumped
out to an early lead as Blaney chased him through the high banks and Brock
Mayes hot on Blaney's tail. Mayes took
the second spot away from Blaney and eventually put a slider on Lynch to lead
on lap six. Mayes ran a masterful race
trhough traffic as he held off several challenges from Blaney who got past
Lynch early on. Mayes and Blaney checked
out, but the two put on a show as the were nose to tail or side by side for 20
laps.
Mayes bobbled a bit in turn two on lap 24 and that was all
Blaney needed to get around the 11b.
Mayes stayed on him to the checkers, but never mounted a final challenge
before Blaney crossed the line $10,000 richer.
Randy Hannagan came home in 5th place, which was
just enough to give him the 2008 Ohio Speedweek championship for being one of
the most consistent finisher of the week.

...Smitty...there has been talk that the start time for the Royal may be pushed back since the Outlaws are the only series racing that night...I don't want to say that it is a for sure thing, but I heard it right from the mouth of someone who is very influential as to what happens with track operations at Eldora...

Who gives a crap if they start early or late if the track is like it was tonight. Excellent shape and excellent racing. It has been in excellent racing shape the past few races.

Lets see if this rocket scientist can figure this out........ When it's clear without rain during the week Eldora's track is dry and very dusty but when you have periodic rain all week the tracks great.

Umm Eldora missed most of the big storms all week. I am sure you could see that all the way from PA. Of course I know you know everything, so why am i wasting my time. Second, the USAC show a few weeks back, when it didnt rain all week, the track was very racey too. Of course I am sure you already knew that too. FYI, its wasnt heavy last night, look at the times, it was just in perfect shape for slide jobs and side by side racing.

I'm not sure why the defencive reaction or even sure who it was directed at but here in AZ at Manzanita, watering the track in not something you do a few hours before the race and periodic rains throughout the week can help bring in a great track. I saw the clips from the USAC race and Eldora was better, but far from good.
Eldora is the track that I've dreamed about going to one day, even more than Knoxville etc.. The way that track has been recently up until ?? it would have been a bad dream though..LOL

...wow Duane, not sure what provoked that response...first off, I never said I "gave a crap" one way or another what time the race started...I was just responding to someone who I have had a previous conversation with about the subject...second, I never said anything about the track conditions or the quality of racing at Eldora...personally, I think both have improved this season...that being said, in my opinion it may be a good idea to move the start time back for a couple reasons...yes it may very well help with track conditions and lead to better racing...but it may also make for a much more comfortable experience for the fans...with 90 degree temperatures usually the norm for the Kings Royal, why not wait and have the racing take place under the lights...I know it was very nice at the Ohio Speed Week date at Fremont when the rain delay caused the heats to start between 9:30 - 10:00 instead of the hot and humid conditions earlier in the evening...
...I do understand that there is a lot of race fans that wish to get home at decent hour after the races, but the Kings Royal is one race where a good number of fans stay right on the grounds and are generally up until the early morning hours anyway...

gasitup, not towards you buddy, guess I should of been clear, nor towards you bigfish.
More towards our know it all PA buddy, thinking i didnt know WTF i was talking about because of beer goggles. Last I knew they didnt allow beer in the announcing tower. I am sure he could see the track from about 500 or 600 miles away last night. Just drove 1624 miles for 9 nights of racing and didnt need some know it all saying i didnt know s**t about the track he sees once a year. That would be like me saying he didnt know s**t about the Grove, that I have been to once in my life, or Lincoln that I have never been to. Just pisses me off sometimes am i will fire back...

DH...understood...and yes I agree the 4 Crown all-nighter was a good time, but I'm not sure what kind of shape the drunks would be in if the Royal lasted that long...LOL !

...wow Duane, not sure what provoked that response...first off, I never said I "gave a crap" one way or another what time the race started...I was just responding to someone who I have had a previous conversation with about the subject...second, I never said anything about the track conditions or the quality of racing at Eldora...personally, I think both have improved this season...that being said, in my opinion it may be a good idea to move the start time back for a couple reasons...yes it may very well help with track conditions and lead to better racing...but it may also make for a much more comfortable experience for the fans...with 90 degree temperatures usually the norm for the Kings Royal, why not wait and have the racing take place under the lights...I know it was very nice at the Ohio Speed Week date at Fremont when the rain delay caused the heats to start between 9:30 - 10:00 instead of the hot and humid conditions earlier in the evening...
...I do understand that there is a lot of race fans that wish to get home at decent hour after the races, but the Kings Royal is one race where a good number of fans stay right on the grounds and are generally up until the early morning hours anyway...

Once a year or not...an idiot could tell you there hasn't been an exciting Kings Royal since Saldana won it in his own car. I agree with ya gasitup on several points.
There's no reason that racing has to start that early....what's the good of those new lights then?
Duane's "announcers booth" comment says it all....
See ya'll in 10 days
