I have done some businees with a guy in New York and SFS came up and this is what he said.

"I went to the track in OKC for the WoO in '90 and for the ASCS race in October of '94. It was a great facility. I saw Shane run out in Ascot in '85, at I-70 in KC in the 80's, and I-80 in NE in '94."

in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he
stands at times of challenge and controversy."

ah dont be such a naysayer. SFS still has good races and its still a great facility. and has held up better with its age than any other I have seen. most tracks are podunk as hell. OKC isn't. the facility itself is still only outdone by tracks built 40-50 years later.....

the show is still great too. aint no where else within hundreds of miles in any direction where you can see so many sprint cars for 10 bucks. the only thing we are lacking at sfs is promoter. lanny sure as hell aint the worst.............but still it is what it is. I dont see how he made it 40+ years doing things the way he does. but it could be a hell of a lot worse. we coulda had something relative to the former OMS folks...

even with all the bitchin I do ---- I still recognize the cup as half full not half empty. we still have good races here at sfs - and we can attribute that mostly to our drivers than the promoter. they put up with shit and thats why our show is still good. well most grind it out.........but as a fan - I'm just glad to see it. I hope the track surfaces continue to get better................. it has a lil bit the last 2 weeks. that crap a few weeks back when ascs here was just flat out pathetic and horrible - along with the 1 hour late start--------it was a rip off to anyone who payed the 20$. i dont really look forward to our ascs shows - I like our weekly shows. especially this week. my favorite lineup - everything but the factory stocks. if the mods buck back up we could have b features in all 4 classes. and with ocrs runnin ada saturday ----- we could very well gain a couple more champ sprints. thats cool too.

no its still a great track and facility. and many feel with a different promoter it could be even better. but we should all take heed that - that can go both directions...

I've been to many facilities around the country. SFS is one of the nicest anywhere. Like 12 said, it aint the facility. I never have understood why this place don't have big races and draw in people from all over the region. I know part of it is raising money to get the big shots to race here but that's where a promotor comes in isn't it? I think lanny makes his money in January and just does this to have something to do in the summer. He really don't appear to give a damn about anybody else and the future of local racing in this region. I remember when it was a big deal to go to the bowl years ago. Now it's a flop. I went earlier this year and if it weren't for the company of the people I went with it would've been a huge dissappointment.

If Okc can get an NBA team, surely someone with promoting experience could be found with some sense to run and actually promote SFS the way it should be done. I'd do it but I don't have a clue how to get it done. I'm just a blue collar mechanic from a poor family. Does this make sense to anyone else. I hope so. Maybe some influentual individual might see this and take it to heart and we'll get a change of promotor soon.

yeah it makes perfect sense Bull Slingers. I dont think i could say it any better myself.

I fear tho that for better or worse lanny will be the last promoter. how will the fair board approve another? from their perspective - if a guy who's been doing this for 40+ years and that is in the sprint and midget hall of fames can't do it - then no one can. and from a business standpoint they would not be wrong to think it. we all know that aint the way it is - but those that call the shots - I guarantee would look at it that way. the only way it would be a smooth and doable transition is if lanny helped it in a positive way - and thats like firing someone but asking them to train their replacement before they go. otherwise - we do need someone with incredible influence and commitment.

and yeah we should be having huge Short Track Nationals - like 360 races. no reason not to. the place is prime time for it. if promoted right - it could be a really big deal...

but like it or not - I think we either have Lanny or have no track. and that sucks - I truly hope it aint that way. but I do think the business mentality folks on the fair board think with - thats the stance they would take. by all rights - here is another fact. the Chili Bowl is Lanny's baby and the 3 tracks he owns/operates are his bastard kids. he can afford to make big mistakes because of the new years money. take away that money ------- and lol --- he would have to be a REAL promoter and vastly improve the way he does - everything. hell just treating people with respect and appreciation would go a long way.

personally I really appreciate all the sfs driver to the upmost for keepin the track going. thats what is doing it - nothin else. as the ascs event showed us a few weeks ago - if the track's fate was entirely put on lannys skills - we would be screwed. but our drivers keep showin up and puttin a show on for us - despite the poor treatment and poor purse. we should really be thankful to the racers at sfs whenever we have an enjoyable experience there...............

I couldn't agree more! We always enjoy the show at SFS! Thank you to all the drivers who make it fun for me and my familySmile Hopefully one day Lanny will realize the error of his ways and make the changes he needs to make. Until then, support the drivers and enjoy the races!!!

I agree. Thank you to all the drivers. The spacious grandstand is quite sweet. We are lucky to have such a nice place. I sit at the top so I don't have to be bothered and my boy can play and I can drink things I bring in my cooler. I have a blast out there and have for 28 years. By the way I am 28 years old too. Fan when you come smoke, come see me and I'll smoke with ya. I only smoke when at the races, funny huh? I'll be there with my Dad, wife and 5yr old boy about two sections over from Mr. Bond towards turn one if you'd like.

Lanny is by far the most stable choice for the survival of SFS. Not only that, the Fairboard makes it very diffucult for anyone else to come in and put on any special auto racing events. The fees they charge are very inflated in my opinion. I wanted to promote a non wing 410/midgit show there for a long time and another Xtreme Nationals event. But the sad part is, there is very little chance for any money to be made because of the high fees and cost of track prep. I know the Xtreme Super Nationals would have been a big deal if we could have kept it going. Its just to big of a risk finacialy.

The half mile is another issue. Lets forget about the dirt work, thats easy. The guard rail would need replaced all the way around and the lighting is another major problem. In a perfect world you could run a Xtreme Modifieds event, a Non Wing Sprint/Midget event and a Wing Sprint Event all on the half mile and they would fill the stands! But unless you have the weekly racing there it is not feasible.

If Mark Brill can make the changes that have been made at his track, the same can be done at SFS.

Look at what went on this weekend at Ardmore Ronnie Gould put up a 1500 to win purse in the mods and had people pull in from about 5 or 6 different states .... A lot of them got wind of the place from the USMTS show bein there because after that all of the drivers commented about the place and how much they liked it . Lanny needs more special events like USMTS , USAC , OUTLAW LATEMODELS and such .....It's not all about ASCS sprinters any more dont get me wrong I like the Sprint shows but hate it or love it Mods are gettin more popular every day .....

I love the speedway I grew up there just wish there were better racing surfaces and more special events to make people want to go there and race

I wont be there friday , I'm gonna wait till about mid summer when it's over a hundred degrees so maybe some of the water will evaporate , so you dont haveto have 6 or 700 horsepower to do any good .......

jorski you say that - but man its gonna be like 96 degrees tomorrow. lol. i thought last week that track woulda been dry.............but its been so hot this week - and everyone complained so much about it being too wet - i bet that sucker goes dry tomorrow. sucks you wont be there - but at least there will be a lot of sprints. who cares bout mods - the sprints are the shit and the stock cars are just field fillers. LOL NOW NOW - dont get bent I'm jokin to the max. I have really enjoyed the stock car racing at SFS. good track - bad track - they somehow always put on a show. seriously - why not run both dude?

Greg; You might not be old enough to remember the supermodified and modified days when dudes like Harold Leep Sr,Bobby Walker,Emmit Hawn,Evard Humphrey,Terry Doss, all of the Jennings ( most of those are still there),Larry Holman and the list can go on and on.Those were the best times @ SFS.They would usually throw in at least two flat track motorcycle shows, two WoO shows, between those four alone were always SRO. Since the bright ones built the track a 3/8, Mike and whomever books the Outlaw shows will not even consider SFS.The only major league racers that will get out there now is NCRA,ASCS which are fun to see,but they aren't the 410's.What we got here is a weekly mess with to many classes. Why not have open wheel sprints 1/2 mile, midgets on the 1/4 mile fri nights,Then they can always let the streetstocks, modified and latemodels run on sat nights and leave the sundays open for spec shows.

Bruce holtz did the two nights a week in the early 90's but he quickly put a hault to that because it cost too much to prep everything for two nights even though only one track was being used
