how much does each team spend (average) to get to a track and then have the event cancelled due to weather? how much is lost? national travellers and locals compared?

compensation for crew members, is it still based upon net profits at the end of the year?

I would guess that the teams are out nothing more than fuel in the event of rainout?

The ones I feel sorry for with all these cancellations are the promoters. Between advertising, whatever track prep they did do, whatever concession stand food/beer they did order that can't be returned or stored etc, these guys are sometimes taking a $20,000+ hit.

I bet that besides the obvious dollar a mile for fuel in the semi's, the Motels and resturants give a rebate on the nights of a rain out.

If I were to fashiopn a guess, I would guess that fuel is only about half of the true travel expenses.

I think we tend to look at this the wrong way. These travelling teams would be spending this money anyway if they did race, so really, the lost money isn't coming from the fuel and hotels and maintenance costs of the rigs, etc, etc. Its lost based on how they would have performed for that race. For example, KKR is losing more in not getting a top 5 than Chad Hillier is for not running 15th. Same basic expenses either way, but the performance based revenue is lost.

SO a rainout costs a lot more to the Tony Stewarts and Steve Kinsers of the world than it does the Hilliers and Hafertepes out there. However, the Stewart types are much better off to start with so it really hurts the mid to lower budget guys a lot more when they don't race and lose that revenue.

lose the "income" now that is a stretch, when was the last time a mid pack team ever have an "income"

If not for sponsors, there is not a team out there that could stay there with the pitance they recieve from performing. Racing is a PAY to play sport. I submit that there are NO teams in all of motorsports where the purse money will pay the costs of racing.

What about monster trucks? Don't they get a set fee no matter how they do in any "competition" events on the card that night?

DON'T KNOW, i HAVE NEVER OWNED A MONSTER TRUCK.

I do doubt if the purse itself will ever pay all of the expenses involved in racing it however.

Lots of racing is a big rich boys ego trip where making a profit (or breaking even) is something that they don't care about.

if a team pays out the money to get to a race, then earns NO money, they have just put out money and effort for NOTHING. no matter if it rained or not.(except if they raced they at least got some tow money) now if you put out the money to get to a race and never get the chance to even TRY to make any money you still have the cost to get there. what you don't get is the tow money. (and no matter how little, it means something to the smaller teams.) what you don't have on a rain out is the cost of running the car. still, the cost of getting to the races, only to have them rain out hurts those with less money more than those with more money. the ones with more money usually have a budget that figures in those expenses. the ones with out money usually have NO budget. if you think it costs more for the tony stewarts and so on than the lesser funded teams to loose income you are not realizing something. the bigger teams are going to be there no matter what. the smaller teams are more dependent on the money they can win, no matter how little. so if the smaller teams have to travel all over the country, spending close to the same money as the larger teams, yet get no money back, who do you think it hurts more? remember, travel expenses are just about the same for a big team or a small team.
