LeRoy Van Conett won the NARC Driving Championship. Mike Johnson was the Most Improved Driver. Rendy Boldrini won Rookie of the Year honors. Don Bloom won the Hard Luck Driver award.
For a 20 race season, the total purses were $51,943 (for an average purse of $2600 per race), up from $34,273 in 1974 when 18 races were run.
An average of 40 cars participated in each race. Fast Time honors went to Gary Patterson four times, LeRoy Van Conett three, while Dick Rauser, Jimmy Sills, and Victor Mencarini were fastest twice each.
LeRoy Van Conett won 10 heat races, Don Snow and Don Melvin won five each while Ron Horton, Rich Govan, and Billy Anderson won four.
Don Melvin won the most semis with three. Ron Horton was the only other multiple winner with two. 16 drivers won the 19-semi-main events, but the 20 feature races were shared by only 11 drivers.
Harder and better competition prevented any clean sweeps in 1975.
LeRoy Van Conett won five main events, with Rich Govan and Ron Horton taking three each and Terry Crousore two. Gary Patterson, Lem Tolliver, Billy Anderson, Johnny Anderson, Gary Rush, and Roger Rager had one apiece.

I sure will never forget Terry Crousore when he made his first appearance at the Gold Cup at West Capital maybe in 1974. He beat the best that night, including Jan Opperman, to win that big race. What a wild man and what entertainment. Nobody had ever heard of him as he arrived from a small town in Montana in his own sprinter.

A few hours ago I was sitting in Susie's Bar in Calistoga, listening to LeRoy Van Conett talk about racing against Sammy Swindell, Gary Patterson, Jimmy Boyd, Lem Tolliver and many more. He loved racing and he is still my racing hero.
Eleven Races in Calistoga in 1975.............those were the good old days.

Hey Chad-
I hear your dad is on to prep the track, and Bill Canada said he would drive the water truck. Talk about days of old.
So when do the tickets go on sale?

My Dad has offered to donate his time by preparing the track both nights and all he asked for in return was that the money that they would have paid for track prep be donated back into the purse and the Semi named in memory of Marc Wolleson as it was 23 years ago at the last Vermeil Classic. Bill's help would be much appreciated and I am willing to do whatever else he needs me to do. I spoke to Barbara Wolleson (Marc's mother)and even in her state of health is planning on attending the race. Charlie Wolleson (Marc's father, long time car owner and NARC official) and others have also said they will volunteer their time as needed. This is going to be a great event and most of it is owed to the undying drive of Steve Howard from SoCal performance. "Thanks again Steve"

I see a lot of good things coming out of this race, I made arrangements to make a donation to Steve for the semi as well. Like spoke about in the E mail a couple of weeks ago.
Looking forward to it.
