SPECIAL D’ANGELOS SERIES BEGINS AT VENTURA RACEWAY
VENTURA, Calif. (April 23, 2008) – When competition resumes at Ventura Raceway Saturday, the teams in the Ventura Racing Association’s Sprint Car class will have extra cash on the line.
Saturday marks the beginning of the three-race D’Angelos Sprint Car Shootout, a special program that awards $2,000 for the winner of each race and $500 to the driver scoring the most points during the three races. The other D’Angelos races will be held during regularly scheduled VRA events on Aug. 30 and Oct. 18.
“Our sprint car program is probably the most competitive on the West Coast,” said promoter Jim Naylor. “That’s probably why general admission attendance is up so far this year. The racing gets a little wild when a sponsor like D’Angelos puts extra money up for grabs.”
The Raceway had 50 sprint cars in competition on April 19, the last time the track’s two sprint car classes raced. The action was frenetic.
On the 26th, the sprint cars will share the track with the IMCA Modifieds, VRA Dwarf Cars, Junior Focus Midgets, Junior Midgets and Mini Dwarfs.
