WESTERN MIDGETS AT VENTURA RACEWAY APRIL 5; KUHN SCORES 30-LAP VICTORY AT BAKERSFIELD
MARCH 24, 2008 --- Ventura (Calif.) Raceway has hosted 115 USAC Midget races since 1986 and #116 is on tap April 5 at the 1/3-mile dirt oval.
None of the top-six in the current USAC Western Midget Series have won at Ventura, but Robby Josett, who has graduated to the Midgets this year, did win in the Ford Focuses at the 1/5-mile dirt track last year.
Nic Faas, who also is a Focus graduate competing in the Midgets this year, won three times at Ventura last year.
Brad Kuhn of Avon, Ind. won last Saturday’s 30-lapper at Bakersfield (Calif.) Speedway in his Weldway Construction/Paul Oil Company Spike/Wirth Mopar. He leads the new series standings going into the Ventura race as a result of his victory.
Kuhn trailed teammate Robby Flock for one lap, then led the final 29 laps to beat Garrett Hansen, Jason Meyers, Robby Josett and Flock.
Fast Bakersfield qualifier Chris Rahe could be the man to beat at Ventura, having won the last two races there in 2007. He and Hansen have won six of the last nine USAC Midget races there. The last driver to win three in a row at Ventura was Billy Boat, who won four in 1996.
