Just calculating receipts and realized we spent almost $55,000 on our new car and motor and almost $30,000 on our back up car and motor. Not to mention the $175,000 we spent on the toter and trailer. When will the purse money reflect what we actually spend?

Fuel prices go up - on the road and at the track, parts and tires (etc) go up, front gate and pit gate prices go up. Everything goes up except for the purses.
Several of the drivers I talked with this weekend won't be doing near the travelling to race this year as they have in the past. There were also a lot of drivers/cars missing who usually come to the Devil's Bowl to race.
Do we have to start investing in the Euro?

If you can't afford to do it....DON'T! The purse hasn't covered the expense for a long time, that is common knowledge. With so many rubber down racetracks, lack of passing causing shrinking crowds it's going to be hard to pay bigger purses.
$85,000 on 2 cars & motors
$175,000 to get them to the racetrack.
That says a lot right there.

I'm not sure if anyone will read this anyways but a good sponsor to go after would be Brownells, Inc. out of Montezuma, IA. They're the largest gunsmithing supplier in the world out of small-town Iowa and have recently expanded into opening a shooting range and a bed and breakfast. They just bought out Sinclair in Indiana which is also a gunsmithing company. They used to sponsor a local guy at Knoxville, but he no longer races. Just thought i'd throw that out there in case anyone was looking for a sponsor. It's expensive to race. But keep on keepin on guys!

15" wide x 100" RR and a 13" wide LR would be a good start. Unhooking the cars would help put things back into the hands of the driver again a little bit instead of whoever has the most sponsorship. The trouble is top teams who have enough sponsorship will fight it tooth and nail.

i'm sick seeing what your spending to race. the car wins you the money, not the toter home. so, you would be up $175,000 already. that's a big win in my racing world!

Funny how people bitch about the ticket prices, but when a racer says anything about the cost to race, or wanting a bigger purse they get all over him. Kind of typical of this board anymore.

ok, $13,000 410 (one and only at this point) , $7000 chassis with half "used up" parts (one and only at this point) , dually pickup loaned by father on weekends ( to see if his boy can actually do it) trailer still not paid for yet , together $26000 for a pull rig , $ 5000 in spares, tools, ect ,and friends for sponsors , Im the blue collar underdog, fighting and scratching to make my wheels turn on the weekends , wishing somebody with dough likes the same thing I do? untill then, Im having the time of my life ,with much much less! anybody else have that story?

hummmmm.......??
Unhook the cars so you can send more of them into the fence. Yeah the best driver wins (most balls, biggest right foot, blah blah). What about the guys who are learning or the field fillers that help to make it a show?
It's winged racing. They are gonna be locked down.

175000 seems a bit excessive (and unesacary) for the "toter and trailer." Last time I checked, the trailer didn't make you faster. Seems like a case of trying to keep up w/ the Jones'.

Ive always been curious what would happen if the cars were to be "unhooked" , A field full of proven winners and veterans, it might make for a good show , as for the rookies and beginners, this would be a disaster! there would be more tore up sh#t, and everybody would be pissed at the next guy? now whos to blame? half the field would be out! lucky to make it to turn one, JMO

unhook the cars? now think back about posts when tracks are dry slick. most i can remember you are blasting the track prep and how boring the races were. just my perspective on the subject.

I wasn't clear on the Shooting Range and the Bed & Breakfast...Are these two seperate places or is this an all in one deal? If it's combined I may have found my next vacation spot.

To find out how the cars will run unhooked, just take the crutches (wings) off and find out what driving instead of aiming a "Sprint Car" is all about.

Forget Brownells. The money came from the boss to me, a 30 year employee. It wasn't that much and he only did it because we're friends. When I quit racing he said, "Good, that'll save me some money!" Besides, you have to go through me to get sponsorship money for anything from Brownells. Carwash: the B&B is 4 miles from the range but the range isn't generally open to the public. But, it is less than 50 miles from Knoxville and there is open shotgun shooting on Thursday nights.
