TULSA, Okla. (January 1, 2007) – In a step to unhook the cars in an effort expected to result in more competitive racing action for the paying fans, the American Sprint Car Series will mandate the use of a narrower right rear Hoosier tire in 2007.

The new tire, the Hoosier 105/16-15, will be required by all teams competing in ASCS events from May 1 forward. The grace period will allow teams to deplete their current stock of right rear tires during the opening events of 2007.

"The new tire will have the same tread design as the current tire, it will just be two inches less of tread width," according to Hoosier Racing Tire Product Manager Neil Cowman.

Cowman went on to say, "It will feature slightly stiffer construction and a slightly harder compound. The approximate rollout of the new tire will be approximately 103 ½ to 104 ½ inches and we recommend the use of a 16 or 17 inch wide wheel."

The new tire will still be considered a Hoosier Medium. A Hard version of the tire will be available as well.

The 2007 season will mark the 16th year of sanctioning Sprint Car racing for the American Sprint Car Series, with the series set to sanction more than 225 nights of racing at approximately 100 different race tracks throughout at least 30 different states and Canada.
