I think if I won the lottery tonight, had a pile of cash, and could run any series I chose as a car owner, I think it would be ASCS. I was always a 410 guy. The only cars I ever worked on were 410s. But looking at the ASCS deal, those guys seem to really have it together. Basically the same engine year after year. Standard rules across the country. Great car counts. You could have a 150 race/year schedule if you really wanted to.

Seems like a better option than the WoO. Any thoughts?

You can run wherever you want to, but, if the AsCS were all that, don't you think that Schatz, Kinser,Saldana, McCarl, and the others run with the WoO for a reason?

With a large, fairly unlimited budget from lottery winnings, why would you choose to run what some perceive to be a "second" class series?

And I'm not calling the ASCS a second class series- I'm just saying that some see it that way. That's why they choose to run elsewhere......be it WoO, ASCoC, or wherever.....

Actually, my big decision would be whether to go on the road, to start a local series or buy a race track and throw them #$%^& Late Models the $%%^ out!

That'a a great idea, but would you please make sure they didn't stop and park in AZ on the way out. Tell them they can come visit like before, but the honeymoon is over and a annulment is in order..

If it was me I would run a good mix of events.  410 winged and wingless, 360, midget and maybe a  Silver Crown race or two (on dirt).  I wouldn't follow anyone's schedule full time just pick and choose and run the big money events.  And I would get a driver who has proven to be versatile in the above mentioned forms and is willing to handle a schedule I prepared.  A real outlaw team in every aspect.  I'd do that for just a few years to have some fun.

Except for the winged races, I'm thinking Tony Stewart would be your best pick. (still waiting for him to dominate that type of racing too, though...) Just make sure whatever car you own that he races doesn't have Goodyears on it ... LOL

I personally don't accept the notion that ASCS is a 2nd rate series. As an ORGANIZATION I think it makes a strong case for #1. hell with that - IT IS #1. They don't just run 1 region - or like the WoO have occasional swings through an area. Their national tour may not be national like the WoO. But it is simply the regions that make ascs the #1. at least for us fans. Somehow they have managed to do what others haven;t - at least to my recollection. they have what like 15 regions now - all united under the same banner. Under the ASCS banner - in 1 weekend you could have ASCS races in multiple states. Each of their region reps more than 1 state (minus the 2 arizona regions).

how can this fact be ignored by so many? They may not have the Schatz, Kinsers, and others WoO have. or the quality that the All-stars have either. but even the ASCS nationa tour makes a strong case there with both Jason and Wayne Johnson, Wright, Rilat, and others. the difference in quality could be that at a WoO show you probably have 15 top tier drivers. ascs don't have that many. but even gettin into that - it's more money than talent these days that decide what series you end up with - so how can this truly be decided either?

the main fact that stick out for me - is that as an ORGANIZATION - is that on a weekend during the season you could have the All-Stars runnin Eldora. The WoO runnin New York. And then you could have on that same weekend - 12 different tracks in 12 different states all running races under the ASCS BANNER! And thats assuming that the other 3 regions plus the National Tour is off that weekend. this fact ALONE has to suggest that for dirt track racing fans of the NATION (ie not just Ohio, Central PA, and Cali)...........ASCS IS THE BEST SPRINT CAR SERIES IN THE UNITED STATES.

I'd buy one of those double decker haulers and travel around with a 410 Sprint and open Late Model. We'd run close to home, IRA, WoO, WDRL, same driver for both cars. I like the variety.

I would buy a Siver Crown Dirt Car or two and a PRA big car and run whatever they had.

The second year I would buyout the gizmo brain who cancelled the Hoosier Hundred and run it even though I would lose money. From there I would be on a crusade to post the USAC SILVER CROWN DIRT SERIES as the top dirt show in the nation. Then when I had a million left from that money hole, kick back and play with the nostalgic/antique Dirt Car I picked up along the way.

Oh yeah, 2 midgets for the Chili Bowl.

The PRA has gone out of business.

USAC's three divisions.....Silver Crown (not the Zambonis), sprint cars, and midgets.

and that there is a good idea. run a TRUE outlaw schedule - a lil ascs here - a lil SIA there, a lil Wissota there, a lil Knoxville there - that could go on a while with the series in the upper midwest.

I like the efforts with the contingencies "P Dub" puts together for that series. much like the ASCS Patriots do in the NY area.

But me? promotional director? - for 1) I don't think P Dub needs that kind of negative attention and 2) I don't need all the beat downs my involvement would undoubtedly lead to. lol. I'll save everyone the trouble and campaign for a highly qualified suave sort of fella like yourself - lol.

No really in all seriousness, I will state that P-Dub's efforts are admirable under the circumstances. Heck, he's got some shows in the Memphis area, and that should be a good draw for him to get more cars in the pits.

There are a dozen $5,000 to $10,000 Late Model races within two hours of where I live and a $50,000 payday less than an hour away. When in Rome...

I don't know who I'd get to drive both though. We haven't had anybody pull double duty around here since Rick Aukland and Jim Bruggeman. My favorite Late Model driver, a Canadian by the name of Joel Cryderman, wouldn't fit in a Sprint Car and none of the Sprint Car drivers I know would get within 100 feet of a car with fenders. Matter of fact Rager said a classic line, he told a track announcer he wouldn't go near one without first getting a tetanus shot.

But I'll never win the jackpot anyways...
