Over on the Indiana Open Wheel board a poster posed the following question?
"Everybody talks about drivers... what about the guys turning the wrenches??"
I thought it was a great post, giving some deserving men the attention they rarely get.The IOW post received some interesting responses. I then copied the question and asked (over on SCRAFAN) who would be considered to be the top wrenches in USAC/CRA? Alot of race fans responded naming several top crew chiefs and mechanics.
Over here the question is who are the best sprint car mechanics/wrenches in Northern California? GSC, Civil War series, Chico, Watsonville, Placerville, Petaluma, etc. Anyone?

I would like to nominate Morrie Williams' guys, Ashley Smith and the Zero Heroes. That would be for GSC, Chico, Outlaws Down Under and selected other events with the WoO, Dirt Cup, et al.

ya silva was apart of something like 15 wins last year across the country including the knoxville 360 nationals the NW 360 nations and nscs speedweek. not a bad season for the team that made their first race in mid july.

Can't leave off guys like Brian Cannon, Darin Smith and Lee Watson. All bright wrenches and no matter who they go to, that driver is faster than they were before.

One of Sacramento's finest, Kenny Woodruff. Can't believe nobody mentioned this person who will always be in the WoO record books for being the wrench on the car that won the first ever WoO race. But as far as today goes, I would have to say Rodney Tiner. I would actually like to see Rodney Tiner and Tim Kaeding on the same team traveling and see what these two could do against the best.
