it was on a dirt track. I know it will never happen and it is only a pipe dream but a guy can dream.

You mean the prelude to the dream race? After I posted that I though about that race.

I would watch it for sure. I would hope track conditions may different throughout the night or multiple races - not just dry slick or something. know what I mean? But hell yeah I would watch with high hopes to see how ALL of em did against each other on dirt. I thought the Eldora race was fantastic. Just good to see em get out there and do it instead of acting like they are above it. Many agree on how much it stinks that nascar fans invaded the chili bowl (so to speak) - but then again - it is kinda cool to see how Kahne and Stewart match up with the field every year. When they go out on the track - there is kind of a different vibe in the air. becomes even more interesting than the previous race - which was already good to begin with.
I think it would benefit nascar and racing in general if they ran about 4-8 races on dirt every year. versatility is a hell of a thing. I think the little E hype would die down some as well - as I don't even think a Hendrick motor could get him into an A Main on dirt. But then again - stranger things have happened.................

I honestly beleive the ratings would match or surpass the biggest they see all year. They just need the balls to do it.

I think the major fortune 500 sponsors of the Gillette Young Puns probably have some influence on it not happening. If it did happen - and it was made an open show. How many of dem Gillette Young Puns you think would make the feature? Funny thing is - that is exactly why most would love it - it would be a great opportunity to see "upsets".

I honestly believe that most (but not all) of the current NASCAR crop couldn't cut it on dirt.

STOP BITCHEN about NASCAR.
You know you watch every Sunday.
You are Racers just like the rest of us. Good God Almighty. Just because we don't have the resourses to run with the big boys don't mean Racing is in our Blood.

They'd just go out and hire some of the best dirt shoes to get em in the race. Probably about a dozen different guys. You can see that already takes place on the road courses.
Allen, I don't watch it anymore. Just too boring. Maybe if the COT helps i'll start watching again but I don't think that'll happen either. All I need now is the hi-lites and results to know what happened. Best thing about that, it only takes up about 15 minutes of my day instead of 4 hours.

I might watch if they went on the air about race time, didn't have any pre-race concerts or skits with DW, and the race didn't last four hours.
Of course, if they raced on dirt, it would make more sense for Dale, Jr. to say, "That's just a dirty ol' race track out 'dere."

You know, Bruton Smith has a couple of dirt tracks...
Maybe he could transfer one of his dates...
Heaven is when you sit down in that seat, strap on
that harness, dial the steering wheel, and flip up
that toggle. When you hear that engine start, nothing
else matters anymore; you're in Heaven.

|
Back in October 2001, Bristol Motor Speedway said they won't put dirt down on the track again. Putting it on and taking it off was causing a lot more wear and tear than what was expected, not to mention the expense of getting ALL the dirt off prior to the next race.
However, if ISC would lay dirt on Talladega (yeah, I know they have a dirt track, but put some on the superspeedway) then THAT could be very fun to watch.
I wonder if the wings on sprints would generate too much down force and just dig in? I'm not familiar with them, so I'm not sure how efficient they are.
But that could be interesting...

If they even knew the ratings potential for putting the dirt on Bristol for a nascar race, they'd do it in a heartbeat.
I think the Prelude To The Dream is a kind of a pretext for such an event. Who knows?
The Fairgrounds dirt mile at Indy would make a case for a second event in Indianapolis, Then there are Springfield and Duquoin which already hold the ARCA shows. But Syracuse holds a 200 lapper as well as a 150 lapper every year, which makes it to be the most durable possibly. After all, when the track isn't perfect, the nascar drivers tend to complain.

I can honestly say I haven't watched a NASCAR race in about 10 years.
NASCAR is a joke. It has become nothing more than marketing gimmick.
It amazes me how people consider NASCAR drivers as being the "cream of the crop" in stock car racing when the whole "recuiting ranks" are based off of who you know... and the big one "HOW MARKETABLE" you are. If you know the right people, have the right look, smile, voice, can speak well and have just an ounce of driving talent you're in.I'm not saying there aren't drivers in NASCAR who have talent, because I believe that there are some some very talented driver in NASCAR (Tony Stewart and Jeff Gordon for example), however, would I say that NASCAR is the top tier of stock car racing as far as talent is concerned? I highly doubt it.

i would love to see nascar at knoxville but it could never happen.....their car of tomorrow would get all dusty, thier tailored drivers suits would get dusty., the semi would get dusty, the shop would get dusty, there would be dust in Jeff Gordon and Jimmy Johnson's hair and we dont know how dust will react with hair product. oh and can you imagine what would happen to kurt busch's tears if they mixed with dust? those are just a few of the reasons why nascry wont race on dirt.
