Marysville Raceway Park Press Release 2.19.08 For immediate release By Bob Burbach Play Day 3 is on for Saturday; Weather may play a part Marysville- Paul and Kathy Hawes are making Marysville Raceway Park ready for the third of three pre-season play days. The event is scheduled for this Saturday February 23rd. All divisions of racecars are invited to participate. The gates will open at 9AM and practice sessions for every class will continue until about dusk. Car and driver will be only $20 for the entire day with pit passes priced at only $5. The grandstands are FREE to all spectators. Promoter Paul Hawes has been tirelessly working to put the finishing touches to the reconfigured ¼ mile. Some remarkably good weather, for a change, has allowed work to continue virtually unabated since the last play day of just two weeks ago. The track is in great shape. That’s the good news…the bad news is that the possibility of foul weather is forecast for the Marysville area during the week and on Saturday. But, the weatherman has missed his mark more often than not lately, so hopes are high for a great day. Promoter Hawes will make another assessment tomorrow (Thursday) before making any decisions. We will post any decisions to our website immediately, regardless of when they are made and forward all decisions to racing related websites. The promoters will not leave any participant in the dark. We are acutely aware of the costs of travel these days and will leave nothing to chance. The track phone, and all other communication devices will be updated instantly if the event is called. Take a look: Please remember that in this 40th Anniversary Season we are looking for stories, photos and interesting memorabilia from MRP’s thrilling past. Email this observer at [email protected] with any fascinating comments. We will also be looking for leads to find participants who have competed here. We want every former racer to be here for our special events. We heard:…that the Ternora Brothers, late of Ewa Beach Hawaii, have moved to the mainland. Shaun Tenora and brother Brandon will join the point hunt at MRP in 2008. The buzz is that a Winged Sprint Car AND a Wingless Sprint Car are in the Ternora arsenal this year. Who is driving what is still a bit of a mystery. Good News: If what we heard is true, it looks like Yuba City’s Korey Lovell is ready to toss his hat into the championship ring again. If Lovell can pull off a championship, he’ll write a new page into MRP Sprint Car history. It looks like Marysville’s Cort Dozier just might have other plans for the championship trophy, however. We haven’t heard from the defending champion, Jeremy Burt, yet. Rumblings from Sparks indicate that they sure could fly if Lovell tries for the title. It could be just the incentive that the Madman, 2004 champion Mike Monahan, would need to make the tow from the high desert to MRP on a weekly basis. Looking west, do we see Brent Dothage heading down the hill? All things being equal, it looks like this might be MRP’s best year in Winged Sprint Car competition, period.
