Tony George offered Champ Car free engines and cars for 2008 to merge back with the IRL. Plus he offered to incorporate five of Champ Car's key races; Long Beach, Toronto, Edmonton, Australia and Mexico City into the IRL schedule and pay a sanction fee.
Gerry Forsythe says he wants $100m on top of it.

A 100 million dollars for what? A dryed up, has been series with a bunch of no names (in America at least) except for Paul Tracy and a French homo named Sebastian? RIGHT!!! There's nothing there except a group of crotchity old team owners! They should accept the offer, and start the road back to building openwheel racing to where it used to be! Although I'm not a big Tony George fan either, there's reasons why the notable team owners (Foyt, Penske, Ganassi, Simon) went with his series! The split hurt everything and everybody, and only reunification will possibly save it...........JMO
SUPPORT WILDLIFE, go to a sprint car race!

Tony Stewart made it to Indianapolis racing sprint cars ten years ago. Even though most roads seem to lead directly to Charlotte, not everyone has forgotten the link...lol. Reunification would be a step in the right direction for open wheel racing to have a glimmer of a hope again.

Reunification yes. But $100 mil?
A message to the wine and cheese pasty boys in the CART?(what ever it is this year)series- kiss my ass.
If the rest of the world was like Long Beach, then it would make sense. But out here in the middle, you still have to have a touch of Jud Larson in ya to even make a decent shot.

And a lot more. Billy Boat sat on the pole for Foyt and JJ yeley was the youngest at 19, thats just from AZ. If I remember right that's what the IRL, never mind. LO I know, Jack made it and that was so cool. Stan Fox, Vogler, lots more.
If USAC would have made a decent looking "new" Silver Crown car instead of that monstrosity, I would have loved to see the Champ cars back at Indy.

What's a champ car? Are those those boring ass cars that race through city streets on Sunday afternoon's? I think they should be called chump cars. I thought we are supposed to talk about sprint cars here?

Screw Tony George. He's the maggot who wrecked the Indy 500.
Adding $6 trillion of debt in his 1st term and now if
elected again he wouldn't have to worry about an
electorate in 2016 so the sky is the limit. And his EPA
would continue to put the screws to oil drilling and
mining for coal. Can you say bankruptcy.

I'll dusagree with that statement Jeff24. The Indy 500 was ruined long before Tony G tried to save it. Blame CART and the same bunch of snooty a-holes that just turned down his generous offer.

Tony George is Tony Hulmans grandson. Mr. George decided politely to not become CART's bitch.
Indianapolis MADE c.a.r.t., c.a.r.t. did not make Indianapolis.
Jeff 24, I assume you are a Gordon fan like me. I like Tony Stewart as well. If Tony George had it his way, the Indy car teams would have made Indy 500 winners out of them. Instead those teams went and looked for money as well as a little talent, in other countries leaving us without many if at all, representatives of our corner. He was trying to open that door that was closing fast. Things are a mess right now, but he is still trying. Even if it means watching the other series die with a whimper.

resprinter, to us old timers when you say "Champ Car" you are talking about a spinters big brother, not a high tech Go Cart.

If Tony George is giving away free cars and engines, he should give them to Wilke, Lewis, Benic, and some of the other midget and sprint car team owners!

Evidently they were getting close to cutting a deal Thursday night but it fell through because of a scheduling conflict between Japan (IRL) and Long Beach (Champ Car). The IRL flew to Japan today to talk with Honda about switching dates.

Rumors abound...
• Gerry Forsythe has decided to keep Champ Car going without Kevin Kalkhoven. • Forsythe is buying all of Derrick Walker’s equipment because he’s going to have to field at least six cars to make sure there’s a dozen on the grid. • Kalkhoven and Craig Gore, the co-owner of Team Australia who still owes Derrick Walker a fortune from 2007, are going to run a team in the Indy Racing League. • Kalkhoven owns the majority rights to Long Beach so he’ll still cut a deal with George to have the IRL there in April and Motegi will be postponed until 2009. • Champ Car will show up at Long Beach for the season opener, then disband and join Tony George’s series at Indianapolis. • The four Champ Car owners will have a conference call on Friday to decide their fate. • They’ve already decided to file for bankruptcy but, for some reason, they’re dragging their feet.

lol, then they think those things are better than F-1 which is darn near as boring as watching paint dry.
If you could buy Champ car for what it is worth and sell it for what they think it is worth, you could live hight the rest of your life on the profit.
