After tonight's board meeting a few of us have decided to try and organize a pre season race car show .....Please remember none of this is finalized just heresay. Say we were to put on a car show in the parking lot of pole position raceway on 36th and north may in oklahoma city . On the Saturday before the first playday of the season weather permitting of course . Some of the topics of discussion were ...if you paricipated in the show by bringing your car that would possibly count as one of your 4 yearly ORA meetings . Another idea is that everyone that came in and raced go-carts that day a certain percentage would be donated to the ORA . Also thought about selling 50/50 tickets and instead of picking one winner 10 tickets would be drawn and they would have a race to see who gets the money ....some of these ideas were donated by friends and other racers ....
What I am asking is for everyone to speak up and post what you think your input is needed
Another thing is I want all who would be willing to bring their cars let me know on here I would like to get a ball park figure of how many cars would be showing up ..
I will try to arrange for some door prizes and who knows what else , This is just a way to try to get racing more involved with the community . I think it could be a lot of fun if we can get a lot of participants ...
Everyone please post your comments , we will be talking more about this in the very near future ...Thanks Shawn Jorski
winners dont cry when they lose , they go back to the
drawing board and come back for round 2 !

Think of something that the fans would enjoy concerning this also. That "somebody" could work up a little deal to send to all the local newspapers (Daily Disappointment, Midwest City Sun, Norman Transcript, etc.) to let the race public know what is going on. This would be a prelude for the fans to get to see their favorite drivers off the track and hang out. Plus they would get a sneak peek for the 2008 race season. Maybe even the chance to race against them inside Pole Position Raceway.
Just some tidbits thought.

That was my thought exactly, lets get the local Media involved. Maybee a Live remote Broadcast from one of the Radio Stations and coverage on all the Local News Channels. If we are going to do this we need to go all out in order to make it worth while, we also need to look for Vendors to provide Hot Dogs and Soda's.
I'm in, if I need to be in charge of contacting the Media, I wiil certainly be glad to. As far as Hot Dogs and Soda's we all may have to pitch in. But I'm ceartain, with no doubt, it will pay off in the long run.
This is what we all need at State Fair Speedway. Unfortunately Mr. Edwards is not going to do this for us.
We absolutley need the ORA and the Booster Club.

GOOD IDEA! As a race fan only (unless someone out there has a ride for me ), I would enjoy a chance like that to see the cars and get to know the drivers. Especially right before race season, when we're jones-ing for anything racing related. Hopefully several drivers will participate. Could be good way to get the kids excited about racing, too. Or at least race fanatics like me, anyhow.
Let's Go Racin'!!

Danny Jennings is in for the car show at Pole Position, IF you guys decide it would count for meeting attendance. That sounded like a great idea to us. We think you would probably have a HUGE turnout if you decided it would count for meetings. Jaime

Thanks for the replies so far everyone , uncle A give me a few days to work out a few things then we need to get together about the media deal . As for food we could probably work out a deal with the booster club to show up , and some of the pro griller racers to fire up some grill's for burgers , dogs , and brats ........ This could be a really huge event for racing in OKC to get the word out there to the public ...lots of people don't even realize there is still dirt track racing around .... We will get the ball rolling ...stay tuned ...
Plus everyone spread the word not everyone has a computer let them know about the idea... Thanks ...Shawn

Reminds me of the days of the car shows at Shepard Mall. Car shows are still big up in Pennsylvania and the east coast. Good luck in the organization.

I think this is a great idea!!! Let me know if I can do anything to help. Another suggestion is the sports animal who does live remotes daily.

You might see if any nostalgia/vintage racers would come. A few old supers/6 cyl modifieds/hobby stockers would bring in a few people. The rat rod movement loves the old coupes and sedans.

I know I am behind a little bit but Shawn I do not know if you have thought about getting ahold of KXY or not. If you have then forget about what I say. SInce they always advertise on the radio about the Friday night races I think it would be a good mix for the live remote.
One thing you ought to do is have a fan vote at the car show. Have different classes set up for each of the division there. Such has coolest paint job, best paint job on a drivers helment. Somthing like that. That way if a fan goes out to the races then they ahve something to grab on to as far as I voted for them in such and such class at the car show.Maybe have some type of entertainment there. Rather it be bands or what not.
One idea that some of my family members and I came up with is an obstacle course against drivers and fans. I came up with using tricycles for it but it is open to using anything and in any configuration.
If I can come up with anything else I will post it.

stands at times of challenge and controversy."

If it is at pole position, the challenge races could be something else. Maybe a % could go to the point fund?

I love the whole Idea. I agree with Jaime, I think we could get more cars if it counted for a meeting. I think another thing to consider is having it indoors at Pole Position. They could put a lot of cars in there if they did it right. I would even donate some of my time to help. That way you don't have to worry about the weather. More fans will come if it's inside. If it gets full in the inside then have the rest outside. Another thing is Pole Position could give $5 off a membership or something that day. I think it could be a real good deal. If the car is ready I'm sure Justin Fisk will bring his Modified out there. Let me know if I can help.

These are all great ideas and that's what it takes to make it happen. WE NEED PARTICIPATION. I, personally don't see where hiding the Race Cars indoors out of the public view can help. Weather it counts for a ORA meeting or not, we should all have enough Pride and Dignity in our sport to attend.
I think a Tri-Cycle Race between a Race Car Driver and a fan would be neat, or a Sack Race with a Driver and a Kid would be cool.
Just throwing out ideas.
