I went to the auction in Wichita that this Deatherage guy put on and it was a crock!

I drove 7 1/2 hours from Iowa to Kansas for the auction. There were plenty of parts. Most were damaged and broken, but that wasn't what I had issues with.

If you are going to have an auction, then make it be legit! The auction in Wichita was a joke. A lot of the guys that brought parts to sell were bidding on their own parts. This is not in the spirit of a true auction. I understand no one want to give their stuff away, but do it in the correct mannerr. If you need a certain price out of you parts, put a RESERVE on it. At the very least, if it's going too cheap, make sure you are the LAST bid. Those guys were the FIRST bidders on their own parts and that's not right. The auctioneers knew this was going on and it was a big joke to them.

Besides guys running up the price on their own parts, it seemed as though the auctioneers were playing favorites to the crowd. On some items the auctioneers would wait a LONG time to pull the trigger and on some other things when it seemed like one of their buddies was the current high bidder they pulled the trigger right away so that guy would win it.

Well after a few hours I left this deal. Yeah, I spent $300 for lodging and gas and lost 2 days, but these guys playing games were the real losers. I had brought $5000 cash and a letter from my bank that gauranteed my check for $40,000. They could have sold their parts, but ran a serious buyer off.

I will never go to one of this guy's events ever again. It's up to you if you want to go, but thought I would warn my fellow racers. Gdude

Have to agree with gdude , Last year at okc i bid on parts that was misrepented by the auctioneer. Decribed as new and from 30 feet away i thought it was a good deal, went in office paid then took pink receipt to "impound",could not beleive auctioneer decribed as new! It was used, cracked & CLEARCOATED!! But did see & get some good deals from some guys selling in booths.

elbows up...stand on it hard.., & get that win!!

Where did I say I was an IMCA guy? I race sprint cars and buy and sell parts. Want to see a copy of the letter? You can send me a self addressed stamped envelope and I'll send you a copy since you find it so hard to believe. You can reach me at [email protected] and I'll let you know where to send your envelope. Oh yeah, I also do sprint buy-outs too, so if you're selling out let me know, I might be interested.

Gdude, just got off the phone with event promoter Greg Deatherage. Mr. Deatherage very much apologizes for your bad experience with his event and would like this resolved. Greg organizes the show and has no control over the auctioneer. Had he known there was a problem, he would have been more than happy to try to make it right with you. This is Gregs 20th year doing the Wichita, Kansas show and this will be his 10th year doing the OKC show so hopefully you can see where your experience may have been the exception rather than the rule. In all forms of life, you know this occurs. Greg informs he would have wanted you or anybody else who had a bad experience to approach him and let him know as he would have made it right. I have been doing the PR work for him for 4 yrs. now and the only thing to be aware about him is being an honest and nice guy. He informs that if your still upset with what occured to please give him a call. Again, he is the event organizor, not the auctioneer or one of the businesses at the trade show booth.

On my personal note from me, I would have had no problem deleting this thread and emailing you directly but I have been doing this thing for just about ten years now and I know what occurs when I do delete posts. I thought this would be the best way to handle the situation that way if there happens to be another problem at anytime, people will know that all they have to do is find Greg and he would be more than willing to get the situation resolved - or anybody else if there is a different matter.

Did you happen to go find the event organizor or did you just let well enough alone and come home to start placing the blame at the first person you thought of on a public message board? I understand (and so does Greg) that you traveled along distance and are probably bitter, but if it happens again please go to the person in charge of whatever event your at. That way the promoter, event organizor or person in charge can be made aware of the situation and either deal with it at the time or make note of possible changes for the next.

That is all that I hope is posted on this subject and if there are problems or you would like to complain or have constructive cristizism, please email myself or call the person in charge to take care of the situation.

Thank you.
