New Year’s Day Playday is on!
Track will be open all day from 9AM

Marysville- On New Years Day, January 1st, promoters Paul and Kathy Hawes will present the first Play Day of the season. The weather forecasts in the days before New Year’s Day seem to be favorable and promoter Hawes is excited about the day. The pit gates will open at 9AM and the track will be open all day for practice until about 4PM. A racer’s swap meet will also be presented in conjunction with the open practice. So bring your stuff to sell and make a day of it. Entry fees for the day are $20 for car and driver and $5 for a pit pass. The grandstands are free.

While much work still needs to be done and earth moving equipment will be parked nearby, the surface will be ready to the extent that Mother Nature allows over the next few days.

“It will be a very casual atmosphere”, Hawes commented. In a recent conversation with this observer, 2004 MRP Winged Sprint Car Champion Mike Monahan expressed an interest in appearing. Monahan will bring a car to test out the newly reconfigured raceway. Dozens of cars from virtually every dirt racing class are expected to take to the clay. The newly re-configured track will be open for practice. Racers from any division will be welcome and it will be the first opportunity for serious contenders to test and start a new log for set-ups at MRP. With the track open for 7+ hours a multitude of opportunities will be available for track time.

As an interesting side note to Hawes efforts to promote series with national recognition, a WESTERN ALL-STARS Late Model Series (http://www.westernallstars.com/) event is scheduled for April 26th. In addition, 3 USAC (United States Auto Club) Ford Focus Midget events are being penciled in as well.

As before, if the 1st of January doesn’t work, the next “clear Saturday” will be the rain date for the play day session. Promoter Hawes is very interested in having the racers opinions and input before the season starts to roll. By staging the event this way, Hawes will have a couple of months to reflect on the input and make changes he thinks would benefit the 2008 40th Anniversary Season.

Watch for a schedule to be available in January or early February, though there is no set date for it’s publication. Special events are still being negotiated and a firm schedule is not available yet. As promoter Hawes gets closer to finalizing the schedule, all the info will be available on the web site. Hawes is always available for questions and inquiries.
