Watching the Thursday night High Limit race from Skagit I saw something weird. At about the 2 minute mark on the YouTube highlight video, Levi Klatt rolls big coming out of turn 4. Towards the end of the flipping something is seen projecting forward from the car like a javelin. Whatever it is appears to be straight, black and about 6' long. What was that ?

I saw that too.  I think it's one of those pieces they put on the leading edge of the wing with their name on it flew off the wing.  Someone is sure to point out that I'm not a "real sprint car fan" because I can't recall the proper part name or the part number but that's what it looked like to me.

Stan, every sprint car worth their salt knows that piece is called a Pflugelkniffler.

Sorry, Mike

I do not believe it is a Plow Shear.

I think it is a Namensschild für Flügel, thanks to GoogleTranslate.

A removable phlugelkniffer if it has a driver name on it.

I wonder if people collect those like they do wing panels?

That might be it. I thought maybe it was one of the horizontal longitudinal wing stiffeners from the side of the wing. (I just made that name up on the fly, for various reasons).

A flying itching phlgelkniffer.  They should probably think about putting lanyards on those things like drag links and axels.  That could cause some serious itching if it got into the stands.

A one-eyed, one-horned, flying purple phlgelkniffer?
