Burned into my memory is an old photo in Open Wheel Magazine of some fans at- I think Eldora- holding up a hand-painted sign on a bedsheet that said "Anybody but Kinser!"
I think a few current racers have now reached that level of respect(?) It seems that David Gravel, Brad Sweet, and Kyle Larson are at that level now according to some fans. Is anybody else there yet?

Another local would be nice, sense everyone gives PA credit for thinking their locals beat the oulaws easier. While Kinsers record in PA says different.

Schatz was absolutely at that level from about 2008 to 2019. Larson would be if he raced full time, but he has his NASCAR fanboys that would cheer his next win. Gravel is disliked but he has only won 1, so it wouldn't be the frustration of seeing the same guy win again and again.

Everyone loves a winner until they win a lot. All of the best no matter what have people that prefer to be negative but as long as they pay for a seat its their right to cheer boo or whatever. When the race is over move on. No place in the sport for some of the unsportmanlike conduct that sometimes happens many times fueled by alcohol! Its not Pro wrestling. Rico has the biggest fan base right now and I would guess leads in Merch sales . Some guys want to be bad guys but most really arent we just dont have many rivalries

Kinser got to that level by winning. He never ran his mouth and just drove the heck out of it.
Gravel doesn't have the wins or domination kinser had but runs his mouth. That's where the gravel dislike comes from.
Sweet would be more like the kinser type of dislike. He won a lot and ran clean and I don't remember him running his mouth.
Schatz definitely was at the "anybody but" level. Won a lot and didn't run his mouth, very similar to kinser.
Some got to the anybody but level by wins, some get there by being douchbags.

Maybe Larson could, but he races rarely enough that fans are happy to see him show up... I know I do

Sweet won alot? Championships yes, but that's hardly what we're talking about here. Sweets record isn't remotely close to Kinser. Gravel has more WoO wins than Sweet does.
