If the National Open  wants to be considered a big deal its time to make it more than just a glorified Outlaw show ,even the Outlaws treat it just like another Outlaw show.

And what do you propose they do......have a band, a cornhole tornament, give out donuts to the campers, or a wet T shirt contest?

Been there and done that there. Except for the doughnuts never got a doughnut and that makes me sad.

I'm kinda curious what it would take to make it a big deal. It pays $75,000 to win. Isn't that a big deal in itself? How do you feel the Outlaws treat it just like another Outlaw race? How do they treat other top-shelf events different?

It's still a crown jewel to the Posse and most of the WoO. The High Limit folk for the good of the sport of course seem to enjoy skipping it now, which seems counterintuitive but I'm sure they have the best interests of the sport in mind....

I have been attending the National Open since the mid 80's. Probably only missed one or two over that time. I am going to the Knoxville Nationals next week for the 4th time. I have also attended The Kings Royal twice as well. The National Open will never be those two events, but that being said, the National Open is still a pretty big deal. The whole Posse vs The Outlaws is real. The atmosphere is absolutely a thing. Yes, The Grove had a crappy weekend last week racewise, and yes the facility could use some upgrades, but the National Open is defintely one of the top crown jewels of sprint car racing. I know other tracks have pre race driver interviews, wet t shirt contests and bands, etc.but there is nothing like a packed grandstands rooting on the Posse every October.

Doesn't the Grove Open already use a multi-day format where both night's of qualifying sets up the Championship feature?  I believe they follow a multi-day points scenario like a true "crown-jewel" should.  Hopefully the racing is better than the past trip.  If I don't have some paint drying, I'll be sure to at least tune in Saturday night for the feature.  wink

Seriously though, I feel bad for the track crew that posted in response to DD's comments.  I feel bad because I'm not sure there is a lot you can do with that place in 2026 that will make it race better for national shows short of a complete reconfiguration.  Hope I'm wrong.
