It's with a sad heart that I pass along the news of the passing of Harry “The Horsethief” Johnson III. He will be remembered for his fun-loving personality, master storytelling abilities, sense of humor, and the legacy he left on the Midwest dirt racing world. Harry was a competitor all over the Northland including Grand Rapids, Hibbing, Proctor, Princeton, Grand Forks, Cedar Lake, and North Star Speedway in Coon Rapids to name just a few. I was fortunate to watch him regularly racing in the "modified sportsman" class and then occasionally in the #50 sprinter. A really fun guy to be around and has perhaps the best nickname in all of racing. RIP Harry.

I vaguely recall thinking he really stole horses while sitting in the stands at North Starr Speedway as a very little kid. Also remember him at Cedar Lake Speedway in the 90's. Legendary moniker in the upper midwest. RIP.
