.............back in the 70s when I was following Flop Myers and another guy coming out of turn 2? Flop got into it with the other guy and ended up in the infield. We ended up side by side, me on the track and Flop in the infield and in the gas. I'm thinkin, "we get down to turn 3 and he's not gonna lift. He's gonna come right out into the race track right into me." So I'm peddling as fast as I can to clear him. I was gaining, gaining, gaining. NOW! I've cleared him and he's not going to hit me.
One minor problem. I've been watching Flop and um, not watching the turn approaching. I've cleared Flop alright but I'm 100 feet past where I shoulda let off the gas. Oops. This was back when there was a guard rail around the 1/4 mile. I got the car turned, but I didn't make the turn. Hit the wall sideways and flew over and tore up my front end.
Moral of the story? Prioritize.
RIP Flop

I can offer what Kevin Olsen said to Tony Stewart at the Chili Bowl two years ago. Tony had just flipped his car, very hard, for the second time, tore it up and hurt his shoulder. As he was led up the ramp, KO threw an arm halfway around Tony and said "a really good driver would have saved it."
Now, come over to the "antique" board and let's hear some more of those war stories. I'd love to hear more about Flop and some of the other characters who used to run around here.

Yes, the "tidbits from the past" page is great for this time of year and makes for great reading. No matter how long or short the story is, it is still Tidbits from the Past.
