The races at Merced and Placerville were fun to watch. Dont care for wrecks but those tracks play no name favorites. They use the word character for the rough surface but glad we have excellent safety equipment as Day and several others tested it. Not big money but racing great. Much better than having dash draw determine winner.

The midgets put on great racing . Good racing is not always determined by the purse .

The midgets seldom disappoint. I was at Placerville and at Merced both nights, and I saw great action all evening at all three events. Besides some wild racing in the main events, there were multiple passes for position in nearly every heat race -- something I rarely see in winged sprint car racing,
BTW, the Hangtown 100 at Placerville paid $20,000 to win.

Midgets on a bullring are my favorite races
I'll never forget Chris Bell & Larson battling it out at Montpelier a few years back during Indiana Midget Week..... full moon, baseball sized dirt clods flying everwhere. Guy next to me was using his seat cushion to block dirt clods. I realized if I stood up, they only hit me below the waist....so much fun!
I had half a mind to fly to Cal & rent a car for those races you mentioned (& the whole Cali tour), but Federal shutdown & airline problems put a stop to that.... no way I was gonna drive 3,000 miles, Maybe next year????
