Just because Balog didn't take off on the start of the heat and Reutzel passed him they penalize him 2 positions. Or was it because Brown drove over his right rear in turn 2 and crashed? Was he supposed to let 4 cars go by him and stay in line to fall to the back like a good boy?
WoO starts suck. That idling start bullshit tears up alot of race cars.

I agree on slow starts causing wrecks. There are certain guys if they are on pole setting pace somebody's going to get tore up. Hafertepf is one that's sticks out to me.

What's your proposal for different start rules? Starters on cars and they start from a dead stop? Speedometer on the pole sitter and a designated start speed? Just curious to the solution you have in mind. If not either scenario, the only other option would be the way it is done now. All based on opinion. And everyone's opinion of too fast or too slow varies. Thoughts?

I did not see that incident so I have no opinion on it.
I do like the two line rule -You may not take off before the first line, but you must take off before the second line.

75% race speed down the back stretch, hold your position until the exit of 4 somewhere around the cone, then freedom to past

OK---now, lets enforce this. "Race speed"---just give it a number? 100 mph? So, 75 mph is back stretch speed. So, 71 mph, too slow, penalize him a spot? 79 mph, too fast, penalize him a spot? What's the window? Still judgement call, just like it is now.
It's fine the way it is. Leader gets the advantage, which they should, and everyone else can go, or try to time it, as they want as soon as the leader fires. It's part of the gamesmanship of the whole thing. I heard so many false accusations again this weekend cars jumping restarts during the WoO race at Knoxville, when they in fact were perfect restarts in almost all cases. Some of these folks sitting around me need to read the @#$ing rulebook before they open their mouths. Just because something has the appearance of a "jump" doesn't mean anyone broke a rule----in most cases, they are just a split second earlier to the gas, and that's all it takes.

This footage I took from the stands years ago must has been one for those slow starts. Watch the whole video as the 360 start was the one I was thinking of. https://youtu.be/QedgMQXSBEU?si=fGzNbQRj3qafZE4g
