Hoseheads used to be one of my daily site visits. Then I found myself visiting this site every two or three days. I couldn't tell you the last time I did visit this site before tonight but I figured out why. I'm tired of HL/WOO debate.
I was part of these arguments two years ago and it was the same (for the most part). Winged/strawser and others were comparing the WOO to slavery, well Egras and others talked about protecting the WOO brand. Everyone said the same thing over and over again. Nobody is listening to the other person.
Over the last year, I felt less of a need to come here because I know what everyone's opinion is. The topics are mostly the same except now you guys manupulate stats to show "who's the best".
"HL is the awesome they got two of the top three spots" says a HL fan boy.
"Yeah but WOO got three of the top five" says a WOO fan boy.
"Yeah but HL got six of the top ten" say the HL fan boy.
"Yeah but this guy and that guy stayed home so this doesn't really count"
There's very little new content here. I guess my question is, why do you guys keep having the same argument? Are you thinking if you type the same thing over and over again, the one thousandth time, somebody is going to change their mind? Everyone has a right to their opinion but good lord, this horse is no longer recongnizable as a horse or what once was a horse.
My question is, what's the reason for the loyalty one way or the other? Winged/strawser (and others), I'm sure Kyle Larson or Brad Sweet have no idea who you are, why have you defended them for two years? Egras and Nick and the other WOO fanboys, why do you continue with the same argument on why the WOO is the superior division? Not trying to pick at anyone, just wondering what's the reason for the loyalty.

My bad. I thought forums were here to discuss and debate the hot topics on sprint car racing. My apologies. Yes---I'm a WoO "fanboy" even though 1/2 of my 30 sprint car shirts are Kyle Larson shirts. Yes---Nick is a WoO "fanboy" even though every shirt I see he or his son in is a Brad Sweet shirt and you can find him at Sweet's hauler at every single race. Yup "fanboys." No----just not WoO haters.
I'll change the subject now since we're no longer allowed to debate the hot topics of the day:
What's everyone's favorite frozen pizza? Mine's Heggie's out of Minnesota.

The short answer is sports tribalism. It's some people's feeling that they have to belong to some sports bandwagon. It explains why some folks like the Bears, some like the Packers. Some like the Vikings, some like the Broncos. Some like Ginger, some like Marry Anne.
I see something bigger in your post. You said "There's very little new content here". That's true and it's true of most every message board on the internets. That's why most people drifted away from message boards to other social media platforms where they could shout insults to people about politics.
The question is this, what kind of new content would most posters like to see on here?

They say you are only as good as your last race. I think of the last couple of races where they all showed up the lone Posse guy has the highest average finish. LOL

First off, I want to apologize, I wasn't trying to single you or anyone out. I know that sounds dumb because I put you and other people's usernames in there but it wasn't to personally pick at anyone. The point I was trying to make was, in any of these HL vs. WOO debates I see, I can just look at the username and pretty well know what the message is going to say. I also want to make it clear that you're not wrong in your opinion and neither is Winged/Strawser. Everyone has an opinion and they're entitled to it, I'm not disputing that. The High Limit was started in 2022 (three years ago), they started racing in 2023 (two years ago). You're correct, a message board is about debating "hot topics". But this series was started three years ago, is it really a hot topic anymore? My point is this, you have your opinions (which is totally cool), why do you need to keep repeating yourself? Do you really think Strawser is open minded enough to read your post and say "I hadn't thought about it that way, you have a point". Are you open minded enough to do that?
There's good points on both sides of the argument but at this point I think everything has been said that can be said. I have to think the HL vs. WOO debate isn't a hot topic anymore. I hope something more exciting has happened in sprint car racing in the last three years.
Now on to the real important stuff. Heggies is a good pizza, so is Lotza Motza or however it's spelled (both very similar) but for me the greatest frozen pizza of all time (drumroll please) No longer exists. The greatest frozen pizza ever was a Canadian Bacon Tombstone. Which they still make but instead of the canadian bacon being in slices it's now in chunks, it's just not the same. But Jacks has a good bacon cheeseburger. Here's my thing Heggies and Lotza Motza are more like a pizza you would order from a Pizza Hut or something but if I want that, I'll just order a pizza from Pizza Hut or where ever. I like the Tombstones for a frozen pizza because they're not too messy. Just my opinion and I know it's controversial lol

Murphy, great post and questions. I read this a few hours ago and really had to think about this.
As for sports triblism. I'm a Vikings fan mainly because I was born in Minnesota. Growing up, in the fall the Vikings were on TV every Sunday, my family changed their plans to watch the Vikings. I can drive two and a half hours and watch them play. I get being a fan of whatever team it is someone wants to cheer for (except the Eagles lol). There's a "one of us" kind of mentality there. I get that with any sports TEAM. What I don't understand is the loyalty to a series though. Ted Johnson started an awesome series but he's no longer with us and this is not in any way his series anymore. Kyle Larson and Brad Sweet are damn good sprint car drivers but why the loyalty to their series? Because they can drive a sprint car, they're great promotors? I like NFL football way more than I like MLB baseball but it's not because I like Roger Goodell more than I like Robert Manfred, I just like watching football more.
Your second paragraph is the one that really got me thinking. You're correct, most message boards are disappearing. I used to follow five or six of them back in the day but now this is the only one. I don't know why, maybe because I followed it so long and it felt like I knew people here. Maybe because many of the people on here live so close to me? I guess I think where Hoseheads has went downhill (at least for me) is it doesn't seem like there's many important people on here anymore. Don't take that the wrong way, I mean people with insider knowledge. There used to be a lot of drivers, owners and Jonny Gibson on here but I think they're gone for the most part. And I think that lack of knowledge or perception has taken away from the quality of posts on here.
Your last paragraph also got me thinking, what the hell do I want? Lol. The reason I originally followed Hoseheads was there was tons of local information on here. For instance you used to give your review of Husets, which I always enjoyed (that might have been the NMRA board). There was gossip about things, I think how I stumbled onto this site was years ago after the saturday night of the Koxville Nationals there was a story that I think consisted of Terry Mccarl drunk on a golf cart wanting to fight an old man. I don't remember all the perticulars of the story and who knows if it's true but it was a hell of a read. I think I learned of all of Tyler Walker's viral videos from here. There was track talk (who's closing, opening or remodeling). But the stuff I really enjoyed reading was the engineering side of things, I love to know how a sprint car works. I've asked a few questions like that and gotten no meaningful response or answer to my question over the last eight years ago or so. But I don't think those people are here anymore. Maybe it's a dying thing but I hope not.

No hard feelings. To me, it's like going to the local bar wearing my Bears jersey and telling me buddy in his Packers jersey what an idiot he is! Then, we take turn buying each other a beer.
I'm in Knoxville right now, and absolutely enjoyed the shit out of last night's field of cars! Some WoO, HL, and even "locals" flexing their muscle!
Have you ever had the Heggie's El Jefe pizza? Absolutely to die for if there ever was a frozen pizza worth that!

I used to boo the 15 for almost 20 years. Then, when he stopped dominating, much like when Kinser and Sammy slowed down a bit, the crowd warmed to him when he did win. I remember the last time he won the Nats (3 years ago?) I didn't hear a boo in the stands. I was at his 300th win in Dubuque and once again, not a boo in the stands.

I am organizing a 'Yes Kings' rally in the west parking lot at Eldora on July 19th. Lavish King themed garb is encouraged.

I was trying to figure that one out myself while trying to remember how many times I've said that I would and have gone to either series if they were in my neck of the woods. And as you know, I would have gone to more by now had it not been for the weather issues we've had.
I believe a number of times that i have said I'm not sure why so many try to disparage 1 or the other series and nit pick at every little thing like officiating, race rules, or series rules. I'm in control of none of it and posting on a forum or social media is not going to change their rules. I understand each series business model and understand there might be things that might seem "unfair" to some but they make sense from business perspective. All I control is where I spend my money and at each event I've been too for both has been well spent.

I've been going to races since 1960 and everything has changed regarding sanctions but the cars and drivers are still fun to watch. I think the problem is that some of these people like the sanction more than the actual racing. I can guarantee that if anyone is fortunate enough to remember this comment sixty years from now this WoO HL thing will look entirely different if they exist at all.

The word "unfair" sums everything up. Everything is always unfair in everyone's mind. Larson spins and continues on, retains his spot, and regardless of the rules being written in black and white, to Larson haters and HL haters, it's unfair. Gravel spins, the yellow comes out, and because he doesn't stop, he gets his spot back where he would have blended in when the yellow comes out, but all of the Outlaw haters think it's "unfair." Macedo has a perfect restart and takes 5 cars going down the front-stretch, and if you have any knowledge of the restart rule, you know it's to the book----but to all of the armchair quarterbacks, it's unfair because of how they think the restart should be, vs. how it's clearly spelled out. All of these are black and white issues with no real gray area. Then, you get into the gray area stuff. It has to be an absolute nightmare for track officials, promoters, series directors, etc enforcing the rules that are judgement calls. It's like a strike that hits the outside corner in baseball. How many more hundredths of an inch does that pitch have to move outside before it's called a ball? It's got to be maddening with every driver pushing every single envelope.
I read a Facebook post that showed how many tracks had closed across the country. One reply was interesting. He said the reason tracks close is because they don't enforce the rules enough which pisses people off. I remember my local track, and I'm sure it's the same way at every track. When it appeared someone broke a rule, and it wasn't enforced, there would be cliques of drivers and fans that would become enraged and boycott the track. On the flip side, when one of these gray-area rules were enforced to keep these cliques happy, the cliques in support of the penalized drivers would boycott the track. You can't win. The WoO can't win, and neither can the HL. EVERY, SINGLE race now, because of social media, is turned into a conspiracy by whoever hates the side that came out with a favorable ruling. Every one. Every great restart is now a jump. Every one. Every time a driver is given their spot back because they didn't stop during a yellow, there are hundreds of fans claiming to know a yellow rule, that never existed, that put that driver to the back. How about Sweet and the scale? Does anyone really believe Sweet has any reason to be underweight? I don't ever recall him being DG'd during his entire career. Whatever happened at the scale, and I don't care because I'm not an official, who cares? At the end of the day, he wasn't under anyways. Non-story.
I'm so happy I can go to the races and allow the officials to do their job knowing my work is done for the week, and I can just go watch racing! "Unfair" is the new social media rallying cry. Every single night is unfair.

Problem I see with the High Limit is rules enforcement, especially with the 14 Meyers cars. Last week when Day crashed his dad and crew guy were both at the sceen with a four wheeler even. Was a nasty crash but what if it was anyone else?. Same thing at Kerns in the spring. Bayston crashed and his crew guy was out on the track with his four wheeler. They had to move the four wheeler to get the wrecker to the sceen. I can't believe nobody else saw this.

I can't believe anyone would care. I may have seen it without realizing it and because it has no bearing on the race, the outcome of the race, and I'm watching on TV when there are officials right there to handle anything that may require intervention. I probably just took a drink of my beer and grabbed some chips. I'm struggling to see how this has any relavance to anything. Did Day come back and win this race because of the 4-wheeler?
Not trying to be a D@#% but, who cares about something this petty? And, what would the penalty have been? He was already done for the night if it's the same race I'm thinking of.

It is a rule that crew members are not allowed on the race track. I am just saying it seems like the rules are selectively enforced.
If you have the rule enforce it or get rid of it.
