to the very uneducated, irresponsible, and baseless notion that Barack Obama is a muslim trying to sabotage our nation. be responsible - support the facts. charachter, principles, and most importantly - policies - should be what any person considers. not mindless rumors.

What hypocritical right wing BS (or typical Clinton BS). to negatively judge a guy for living with a muslim family for 4 years (how does that make you bad person?) - while ignoring a current president who was in business with people who ATTACKED us. please read and enjoy a healthy dose of reality and common sense......................have a great week. and by the way - very sincerely - I don;t mean this negatively in any way to whoever posted that here or believed it - only to the worthless who concocted it in the first place. happy holidays.

Obama describes faith amid false rumors

By JIM KUHNHENN, Associated Press Writer Sun Dec 16, 6:37 PM ET

MASON CITY, Iowa - Democrat Barack Obama on Sunday confronted one of the persistent falsehoods circulating about him on the Internet.

He went to church.

His attendance here at the First Congregational United Church of Christ, with the news media in tow, was as much an observation of faith as it was a rejoinder to baseless e-mailed rumors that he is a Muslim and poses a threat to the security of the United States.

Obama did not address the rumors, but described how he joined Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago two decades ago while working as a community organizer.

"What I found during the course of this work was, one, that ordinary people can do extraordinary things when they come together and find common ground," he told the congregation. "The other thing I discovered was that values of honesty, hard work, empathy, compassion were values that were spoken about in church .... I realized that Scripture and the words of God fit into the values I was raised in."

Obama regularly attends church while on the campaign trail, but seldom with reporters watching. He is known to invoke religious references in his speeches and has said he has a "personal relationship" with Jesus Christ. He often has said that religion has a place in public life and that faith and politics are not exclusively the domain of conservatives.

"During this holiday season and during this political season I'm continually reminded that the values that I learned at Trinity and as part of the UCC community are values that can't just stay in church but have to be applied outside of church," he said.

Obama staffers and volunteers say they periodically encounter voters who say they cannot support Obama because they've heard he is Muslim, a claim that has been making its way through Internet sites and blogs since he announced his candidacy for president.

The issue gained prominence earlier this month when Hillary Rodham Clinton's campaign forced the resignation of two Iowa volunteer coordinators who had forwarded e-mails that falsely tried to tie him to Islamic jihadists.

The Illinois Democrat — whose middle name is "Hussein" — was born in Hawaii and moved to Indonesia at age 6 to live with his mother and stepfather, who was Muslim. He left Indonesia when he was 10 and returned to Hawaii to live with his mother's parents.

Obama's background re-emerged Sunday when former Nebraska Sen. Bob Kerrey, who had just endorsed Clinton, referred to Obama's Muslim side of the family in an interview with The Washington Post. The remarks were part of a generally complimentary assessment of Obama.

"It's probably not something that appeals to him, but I like the fact that his name is Barack Hussein Obama, and that his father was a Muslim and that his paternal grandmother is a Muslim. There's a billion people on the planet that are Muslims and I think that experience is a big deal." Kerrey added, "He's got a whale of a lot more intellectual talent than I've got as well."

At the church on Sunday, Obama shared a pew with Joann Hardy, one of his Mason City precinct captains, and her husband, Russ, and their family.

He also participated in a church tradition of tossing mittens onto a bare Christmas tree. He joked that as a basketball player, the toss should not pose much of a challenge.

His first underhand throw hit mid-tree. His second was close to the top, and elicited a cheer. But his mitten was quickly overwhelmed by colorful hats, scarves and gloves tossed onto the tree by the other congregants.

At a later stop in Algona, he was asked whether he would convene a council of spiritual and ethics advisers to guide him as president.

"It is important for me to have people that I trust, that I can talk to," he replied. "Obviously, part of that is my religious life, my spiritual life as a Christian, a member of the Trinity United Church of Christ. Part of that is being surrounded by people who are not a bunch of yes men."

Obama's campaign has made a point of reaching out to religious voters. It has held 16 meetings in Iowa as part of a faith outreach program it is undertaking in all primary states. Aides stressed that those efforts are unrelated to the false Muslim e-mails.

The last time Obama addressed a church gathering was in June when he spoke to the United Church of Christ convention of Iowa in Fort Dodge.

Sunday's stops across northern Iowa were part of a six-day tour with 23 events in 22 counties.

ah c'mon now Flash. there ain't nothin wrong with discussing politics! I wasn't trying to down you or your post - I was downing the people who would have first made it and started sending it around. definitely not you. funny thing is - it was probably Clinton's campaign that started floating that around.lol. but naw man - what I wrote wasn;t in any way shape or form directed negatively towards you. in fact, engage more in political discussion. it's a great and useful thing to do. I enjoy reading everyone's opinions - even those I don't agree with. and I'm the same way when it comes to race talk. I fully and sincerely understand why you posted it - I back Obama and it was another perspective. It wasn't a mistake for you to post that here - it was crap on the people that ever put it together in the 1st place, I don't know any other way I can stress that point more. suffice it to say - anytime you give your thoughts on the matter - I'll look forward to readin it as I would any other. I apologize if you thought I was tryin to be negative towards you with that - or to anyone else who was of that opinion as well. I'll eat the crow - I feast on it often. lol. sorry man.

wtf? white guys? these rich, greedy, corporate, and aristocratic "white" boys have screwed this country all up. while the ignorant hail them as "visionaries". Don't judge by color or sex. you are probably an intelligent person - judge them by their policies and principles.

there are women who could have done much better with a lot less than Bush.

there are black men who could have done much better with a lot less than Bush.

white does not always get it right. I'm not for Clinton at all - but it ain;t because she is a woman. she's got bigger balls and more brains than our current president (the worst ever). but the mudslingin she has done against Barack Obama is rather pathetic. she is desperate because she is losing. rest assured however - as there are candidates on either side who will do pretty good if elected. I think most the democrats are ok. and aside from Guiliani - I find many likeable policies with the republican candidates. unless your sexist or racist - which I would think you are probably neither - judge them for the right reasons. not their color or whatever they are packin. lol. look at the issues and then judge by what each thinks. myself personally. I'm for anyone who will make this country safe by protecting and enforcing the border - not by destroying our bill of rights and the constitution like our current president has done. spying on americans does not fight terrorism - it is done to monitor and silence domestic opposition. if protecting the country is to be taken seriously - it begins with good foreign policy and ends with border security. i'll stop there so it won;t become a rant - thats JMO. biggotry, racism, and aristocracy was what the Civil War was fought for - to honor all those who sacrificed their lives for a greater cause - and even the who ones who still do today - in the name of the fallen we should not pracitce them. your opinion doesn;t stink - it's your opinion. And it's only my opinion that peeps should look past color and sex.

Was he born in America? If he was I'll take it back...if not then we don't need an outsider runnin' our country!!!!!

As far as the "Woman" deal....God is male, Adam was first and he was male, Man is the head of the household (in the bible!), and our President should be MALE PERIOD!!!!!!!!!!!

I do agree about our current President being the worse one ever....God I miss Reagan!

I can see where you are coming from. but yes he was born in America. Hawaii in fact. It may not be the continental 48 states - but I think most of us could agree it is better than Texas! LOL.

People should keep things in perspective. If one disagrees with another. disagree with the opinion - address the opinion with your own - but there is not any need to judge the PERSON giving it. If someone disagrees with me - I ain;t gonna hold it against em personally - unless it is real disrespectful. I just feel people should discuss the opinion not the person.............

In this thread a few of us have disagreed - thats all. I ain;t going to judge someone negatively because they think differently than me. in fact, I think it is a healthy thing. If everybody agreed with each other about everything - well - things would just be dull. If everyone agreed with me - I;d have no points to argue and I;d probably spontaneously combust..................lol

boy you are tough on the gals! lol. but for different reasons I don't think Hillary Clinton is a great option. all politicians have agendas - but hers seems to be anything to get elected - and I think most of what she says she will do - if elected is empty promises. she says something different to every crowd she talks to. or at least the 4 or 5 times I've heard her speak. and her campaign peeps get to spreadin false rumors - and then she fires em like it wasn;t her idea. yeah right. One could almost imagine the conversation of her telling the person takin the fall how much they will benefit if she is elected. hell she might even make em the head of FEMA, obviously it doesn't take much to get appointed to that job. I liek Obama for his thoughts on a lot of issues - same as I'm all for Ron Paul as well. But the corporations don't like him much - so much so that they influence news agencies to not even run his name through most polls - doubt he has much a chance - but I wish he did.

but yeah I've grown a lil tired of talkin politics the last couple days. how bout we all start some new threads race related............like what new drivers may be runnin sprints next year, or what changes may be made or should be made in the near/far future. something. anything. I KNOW some folks out there have a few "tidbits" they could share. lol.
