I don’t understand why WoO doesn’t have rain dates.     Their travel schedule is demanding enough even when they do actually get in 2 races a week.    In PA sometimes we race 7 nights a week.   Yet folks will only show up to see the “Greatest Show” on a weekend ?

Any ideas ?

Crowds generally don't show up on Sundays. Look at the crowd High Limit just had recently on a Sunday. Unless it's a holiday weekend or part of a Speedweek, there doesnt seem to be a great interest in attending Sunday races.

100%!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm absolutely floored at how many people don't understand this!  I've heard some say just move the race to tonight.....??????  Huh?  On 24 hours notice?  I don't care if you gave a week's notice, the crowd isn't coming.  Then "move the race to Sunday/Monday"  or  "Move the race to Monday/Tuesday"???????????????

Does anyone understand how businesses work?  It would be fantastic if they did, but I would be absolutely shocked!  My entire group has now cancelled the trip for this weekend.  We are 4 hours away.  Tonight wouldn't work, because most have to work on Friday.  Sunday night won't work because we all have to be back on Monday.  Does everyone really think Knoxville wants to put on a show, with full purse, and hardly anyone in the stands?  Forget the Outlaws.  Forget DV.  You think they wanna open up to sell beer to 200 people?

If I hear one more person say "we used to just run Sunday nights" I'm gonna throw up.  This isn't 1985!  People have their calendars completely full of entertainment and club sports.  Almost no one is available at the drop of a hat anymore.

Reminds me of Chuck Brennan saying that if anyone mentioned Knoxville again, he would throw up.

That being said...Husets Speedway runs on Sunday nights. Smile

For all the bad things said about Chuck He left behind one of the nicest tracks on the circuit now being run very well by Todd. It takes management and money  plus respect of which Chuck didnt have all three. He did have vision of being a big deal.

We have a track close by---Dubuque Speedway---that runs on Sunday nights as well.  And, it does very well.  It's run on Sunday nights as long as I can remember.  That's different than running a makeup on Sunday for a track that runs on Saturday.

That hasn’t been my experience.    The most recent example was the WoO race at BAPS last summer.   It got rained out after time trials and they rescheduled it for the next night which was a Thursday.     The world didn’t end.   The track didn’t go out of business.   A good crowd returned.    And the show must go on.   David Gravel won.     And the WoO is going back to BAPS this summer.    Maybe it is just a PA thing.

NASCAR runs rain delays on Mondays. It isn't just about the fans in the stands once TV becomes a player.

The Midgets run in Sun Prarie, WI on Sundays. Beaver Dam runds on Tuesday nights . . . . . .

Sunday, Sunday, Sunday......... Plenty of tracks race on that special day other than Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends. USAC at Kokomo, Susky/Baps, Port Royal late models are this Sunday, Sunday, Sunday. Race fans like Sunday races too, even when it is a rain date via the social interweb. Don't get a boo boo falling off your high horse. I bet you're a lot of fun at the track.

Weather forecast not good for Saturday. I would guess some teams are already there so if at all possible they will try as temps are suppose to be 50s.April is a tough month for racing in Iowa

A lot goes into WoO and other series having rain dates beyond them wanting to have one.  Can the track support rain date is a big thing?  Can the employees make it to the track to even hold the race.

Rain dates are VERY hard for tracks to do.  Support is MUCH smaller on a rain date than a scheduled date.

The weather on Sunday at Knoxville looks awful. So its a moot point.

Omaha is currently being eaten by tornadoes that are headed east into Iowa. I'd guess the weekend is rained out.

I live in Knoxville and the sirens went off about a half hour ago but the rain is missing us tonight by 10 miles. Tomorrow is supposed to be mid 70's. Rain might be coming in later evening. Maybe they can move up the start tomorrow and get it in?

Nascar does this for 3 reasons:

1.  They already sold the tickets.  Most tickets to a Nascar race are sold months before the event, not at the gate.  What do they care?   That's why the Knoxville Nationals still run on Sundays if rained out Saturday.  All of the tickets for Saturday night were already sold.  Missing out on some beer sales, but they'll get 60% of that on Sunday night.

2.  They are going to get all races in for the points

3.  The pockets of Nascar are slightly deeper than that of the Outlaws and Knoxville Fairboard.
