Can someone please give me the overview of Friday night points at Knoxville? If a racer has a perfect night, how far up in Saturday's program does he move? Aren't the top 16 set for the A?

The Friday program is separate from the points of Wed & Thurs. they run a complete new program and the top 4 finishers start 21-24 in Saturdays A Main. Positions 17-20 come from Saturdays B main.

And, they use the same points system on Friday as they do on the two qualifying nights.

NO points on Friday. Everything is based on feature finishes tonight to line up Saturday. Top 4 in tonight's feature start 21-24 in tomorrow's finale. 5th in tonight's feature starts 11th in the B, etc. (Also--everything tonight is based on times--top 3 from each heat to the feature, lined straight up by time. After the heats, the next 20 fastest from each flight to the 2 B's--regardless of heat race finishing position, everyone else to the C.)

There are zero, zip, zilch, nada, nil, love...in other words, NO points awarded for any results during the Hard Knox Friday program. After the top 26 in points are determined through Wednesday and Thursday prelims (16 to Saturday's A, 10 to Saturday's B) the points accumulated for everyone else are thrown out. Friday is split field qualifying, 6 total heats with a 4 invert (confirmed via Knoxville's website). Top 4 finishers from Friday's A start 21-24 in Saturday's A (as Quick-time mentioned). Friday's 5th place A finisher starts Saturday's B in 11th, 6th place finisher starts 12th, and so on until all five Mains are lined up for Saturday. There are two B-Mains run on Friday, so I believe Saturday's lineups are set by alternating finishers from each Friday B.
Clear as mud?

So TT has never been more important and the top 4 in the A min get prize money but really are racing for the $10,000 to start Sat's A
i love this format, probably would work too well with 50 cars.
Even though I may not know you, I
care what most of you think!

Sorry, for the bad information. I am having withdrawal symptoms because I am missing the Nationals for the first time since 1993.

Thanks for the info guys. Just make sure I'm understanding this correctly....
After Wednesday's races Haudenschild is 26th in points, which puts him starting 10th in the Saturday B feature. Gravel is 44th in points. If he has a super night tonight, he could leapfrog past Haudenschild into the A? If he has a not so bad night tonight, he could be starting right behind Haudenschild in the B?

That is correct. This is what has made the Friday racing so exciting in recent years.

15 grand to start the A. 10 grand goes to 5th in the B main or first non qualifier.
Let's go Sprint Car Racing!
Knoxville - Best Track In the USA!
Eldora - 2nd Best Track in the USA!

I'm not sure if it's still this way but when the format first changed anyone who had qualified through the Wednesday or Thursday shows could forfeit that and race on Friday to try to improve their starting position but would be at risk of starting much worse. If memory serves me correct, the only person I know of that did that was Lasoski the first year and was guaranteed a spot in the B but decided to race on Friday and it didn't go well for him and he ended up starting in the C or D. I don't know of anyone else who's done that. Does anyone else know if my is info correct?

I believe your info is correct, but they no longer offer the option.

All the points are added up after Wednesday and Thursday and the Top 16 are locked into Saturday's A. The next ten in points are locked into Saturday's B (a driver can not opt out any more from the B) and then everyone else is in Friday's Hard Knox race. I really like this new format,

Sheldons chances of making the A main on Friday were better than from the B tonight but he can do it but will need some racing luck and at least one yellow. The B main has many good drivers that are fast on long tracks

Maybe, look at Marks. I thought for sure he would make it last night.
Sheldon needed to time better during his qualifying night.
