Ol' JW was so good to racing. I will never forget the time he had a heart attack at the Hoosier Hundred and they were going to helicopter him out of the fairgrounds to the hospital. They load him in to the chopper and the rotors rev up and just before its ready to take off things slow down and the door opens up and someone hands something out to someone on the ground and then the chopper proceeds to take off. Come to find out, JW had a wad of cash he wanted to kick in to the purse for the day and wanted to make sure they got it. He made a comment afterwards something to the effect that if it was his time he knew damn well he couldn't take it with him.

I just remember him always dropping cash into racers pockets. $2-3 hundred here or there for a quick time. He added 3 grand to the winners share of the Kings Royal in 87' I believe. He was very tight with Hewitt, always had a sticker on his cars.
