A couple of weeks old, but my account was messed up and couldn't post.

Douglas Rallies to Win Moss Memorial

AMARILLO, Texas – Chris Douglas mounted a late charge to win Saturday night’s 3rd Annual Lyndon Moss Memorial 305 sprint car race at Route 66 motor Speedway.

Fifteen-year-old Braxton Wilson from Lubbock, TX set a torrid pace in the Lubbock Wrecker/Wilson Wrecker #14x to pace the field for the first 24 laps of the 30-lap event.

But a yellow flag brought the field back together for an epic battle for the $10,000 prize. Douglas in the orange and black Jeff Peck Images, Troy Douglass Racing Engines #56 snatched the lead from Wilson coming off turn four to pace the rest of the race. John Carney piloting the Ben Aufill Lubbock, TX-based Coyote Candle #74b would also get by Wilson after hitting the front stretch wall and claim the runner-up spot with a bent wheel.

“The car was horrible at the start, and I fell back to fifth with some stupid mistakes on my part, but the track started coming to me, and the car got better and better. I worked my way back up to second,” Douglas said. “That caution was just the break I needed to get a chance to win this event in honor of one of Amarillo’s great racers.”

Wilson’s remarkable weekend ended with an impressive 3rd place on the podium, with Quinter, KS native Zach Blurton in the 2j coming across the line 4th, and Seagoville, TX-based Colby Stubblefield in the cool-looking Taco Casa 2X rounded out the Top-5. 37 teams from Texas, New Mexico, Kansas, and Oklahoma competed for over $50,000 in cash, certificates, and products.
