Do they know if it was straight line winds or a tornado?  There would have been haulers and campers out back for the two day show?  Does anyone know if there was any damage out back?  Those big mostly aluminum trailers can be like sitting ducks in a bad storm.  Waiting to see what friends who were down there have to say.

My aunt lives there and was frantically texting me and here was the radar at the time - it was nasty. The line was moving basically east at the time.

And if it was going to happen, glad it happened after everyone got out of there from the races a few hours before.

For those of you not familiar, Huset's is located right where the "O" in SIOUX FALLS is on the map here:

Sioux Falls tornado sirens activated. Tornado warning in Brandon, Luverne, MN

Stan that appeaes to be straight line wind damage probably in the 80 to 100 MPH range. Right now at 2:40pm another line of severe weather is about to hit Sioux Falls

What the heck. It blew over a utv but the kybo is still standing upright.

No storms in se iowa but the last 3 days have been incredibly windy. Kind of odd for it to blow like that 3 days straight.

My wife talked to her aunt who heard from her family in Flandreau.  They lost a barn there.  Her family was involved in racing at Husets for years.  The late Steve Haman was her brother-in-law and her late brother Jimmy Schmidt built motors out of a shop in Flandreau that some of the stock car guys ran.

Haven't heard any more if it was straight line winds or tornado. But I still think by the looks of things it was straight-line winds because there was no twisting of the damage and stuff. But with all the damage they had I really thought there'd be a strong possibility they would have to move the World of Outlaw show this Sunday to Jackson. But I see on their Facebook page today the 31st that they're going to have everything fixed and have the races at Husets.Tod must be spending big bucks to get the people in there to fix things or I guess it would be the insurance company. Hope that go over the track good and get it cleaned up so there's no problem with tires there was a lot of debris from the Suites. I was thinking about going up  to Grand Forks Friday night and then coming home to Blue Earth and then going out to Husets Sunday but gas jumped $0.30 a gallon here today that's just to the point where I don't think I can afford it. I'm glad that they're getting it cleaned up and ready to race

I drove by there tonight. It looks like cleanup and repair are well underway. My observations and uneducated opinions:

*Most of the top row suites have had the damaged material removed. It appears that the wind pealed the roof off, which caused the front walls to push out.

*I doubt the top suites could be made usable by the weekend. Maybe you could get a discount for a sweet without a lid- wingless, if you will...

*Most of the grandstands do not look damaged.

*The infield and track area look to have been cleaned up and debris is gone

*The light poles seem to have been unaffected by the wind. The catch-fence posts on the front stretch, however, are all bent towards the infield.

*If I were a betting man, I'd bet that the biggest issue will be the wires. I'm sure they took a beating in the wind. *I'd say it was a straight line wind coming from the west. The suites are 3 stories tall and sit on a ridge in the landscape. The wind must have come up that ridge, stright up to take off the roof, then straight down 60-70 feet to bend the catch fence poles and flatten the little buildings in the infiled.

Doug Johnson called into Winged Nation and talked about it yesterday.  Sounds like they will have it cleaned up in time for this Sundays race with the exception of top row of the suites and announcers space.  They are probably not going to get those rebuilt until after the season.  Race tracks are outdoor venues in tornado country so it's something that happens every few years.  Fortunately to my knowledge it has been repairable damage and not total destruction.
